Sssssnakes!!!
Birthday cake for twin boy and girl's snake themed birthday party. A snake handler is bringing all his snakes into their home, yikes!! Iced in bc with fondant snakes and accents. I have made the executive decision that I'm over my caking craze, and this is the last cake I will make for anyone except my own children. That said, I did kind of enjoy this one......

Rustic Elegance
This was for a progressive dinner in a very nice neighborhood; my girlfriends' home is 12,000 square feet! She told me to do whatever I felt like, and immediately thought of this look. Her home is very English with a touch of rustic, and this fit the occasion perfectly. It was French Vanilla with fresh strawberry filling on the bottom tier, chocolate fudge with fresh raspberry filling on the top tier, and wrapped in marbled white chocolate strips. I thought it would be a lot easier to do than it actually was, silly me!!

Hydrangea And Bow Cake
This was for a friend of a friend. I didn't have a clue what I wanted it to look like, but I'm happy with the results. I kind of had a vintage-y look in mind; not sure I achieved that though! I had to use Penguin shortening instead of Sweetex so working with something new always gives me a challenge; this was no exception! The hydrangeas are gumpaste and they were really fun, albeit very time consuming to make. The bow is fondant, and I used Wilton for the first time....I don't think it tastes as bad as everyone else does! Thanks for looking!

My First Wedding Cake
This was for my brother's wedding in May. I know there are several mistakes I wish I'd been able to fix, but this cake traveled six hours through torrential rainstorms, so I was just thankful each tier was still in one piece! This may possibly be my LAST wedding cake as well as first!

Jaycee's Zebra Stripe Birthday Cake
I had so much fun doing this cake! Since I don't charge for my cakes, I was given free reign to do whatever I wanted. I know this has been done over and over, but it's still one of my favorite designs. I hope the birthday girl is as ecstatic over it as I am! It's all buttercream, except for the gp bow. I think it's time to learn some new flowers now though!

Dan's Hunting Coat.....and Cake!
So the story goes.....a friend of ours has just bought a pricey hunting coat, custom tailored no less! The old hunting colors which were black and red wool.He thinks he looks awesome in it but his wife hates it.She asked if I could do a hunter wearing this coat, and deer...Aaaackkk!!! I can not do people or animals!I tried sculpting from GP then quickly gave up that idea, and just bought the Field and Stream kit.I ended up painting the coat and hat on the hunter, and she was thrilled! Thanks for looking!

First Baby Shower Cake
A lot of firsts here! First baby shower; using SPS; this type of gp bow; first time with SugarShack's icing and techniques. I had a few issues with the icing, but by the time I was finished I had a much better idea of what I need to do next time. Now I can't wait to do another! The cake is nothing fancy, just WASC recipe made French Vanilla, except I made a (good!) mistake!I ended up adding Fr. Van. pudding on accident, even though the recipe didn't call for it, and the cake is out of this world!

Final Cake Class
We were able to do whatever we wanted for our final cake as long as it was things we covered in class. I kept mine pretty simple. I used a butter cake recipe I found here with a choc. chip cookie in between layers, and although the cake was level when I crumbcoated, it had started to sag on one side by the end of the evening. I also found out I should have crumbcoated in the same color as the final coat. And this is why I'm just in the practicing stages! It's all BC also.

Dad's 70Th
Since the cottage was only made of RKT, I had to make a cake also, and my Dad is a die-hard golfer. He's Scottish, and I'd planned to try to put the Scottish tartan on the sides of the cake (which is why they aren't covered so well in bc) but ran out of both time and energy! Ah, well, he was tickled anyway! TFL!

Playing With Fondant
This was a "just because" cake. I used WASC for the first time (love it!), and first time with fondant. I only did single tiers and didn't use any kind of supports so it kind of sunk into itself. I wouldn't let anyone cut into it for a few days! But it was so moist inside still. The fondant was pretty sticky in between layers, and unfortuantely, that was my family's first introduction to fondant, so now they claim to not like it. I used Michelle Foster's recipe. Thanks for looking!

Cupcakes For School
I made these for my daughter to take to kindergarten; she was so excited to celebrate her bd at school. They were tie-dyed inside, with fondant and bc roses. And disco dust of course! I got my inspiration from Peggy Porschen's Pretty Party Cakes book. They stirred up a lot of interest at school!

Calli's Doll Cake
First time making a doll cake. It was for my daughter, who was very specific that it had to pink and orange. I tried the bag striping technique and didn't occur to make several bags instead of try to re-stripe....what a mess! In my defense it was 3:30 a.m. when I was working on this!

First Pillow Cake And Ri Tiara
I made this for my sister's (who thinks she's a princess!) birthday. The tiara was a pain in the rear as it kept breaking, but it was so pretty! For the pillow I started with 8" squares but by the time I got finished carving them it was so tiny that I couldn't really fit the tiara on top. I had lots of trouble with the fondant too. I was just so glad to be finished with it! I wish I had covered the edge of the cake board, but she didn't care. She waited two days to even cut the cake!

Mermaid Doll Cake
I made this cake for a friends' daughters' second birthday. I was testing out cake recipes, as well as playing around with RI and fondant. I wish I could remember where, but I got the idea of marbling the fondant from pictures I've seen here on CC. You can't see it as well in the pictures, but her tail is plastered in glitter, and was sooo sparkly! I had a ton of fun with all the detailing and bright colors on this cake. Thanks for looking!

Brush Embroidery Fall Leaves
This is the cake I cut my teeth on earlier this week! I used cc icing for the first time, made my first loopy gumpaste bow, and played around with brush embroidery. I had to dowel and stack too, yikes! I learned so much on this one, mostly what NOT to do! I got my inspiration from a cake done by Thahn Thahn. Thanks for looking!
