Hmmm, my cakes always fall into Misc. 3D. I wonder what that says about me. This cake won first place in the Riverton Fair Cake Decorating Contest. Oh, also it was the only entry. Hee-hee. It sure did cause a buzz or a ring actually. They said it was the talk of the baking tent! The base of the phone is entirely cake and the receiver is rice krispies. It's covered in fondant.
This cake tied for first with one other cake in the Four Town Fair in Somers, CT. I took a 13" x 9" cake and cut it in half for the buns. I then covered it in fondant and made the filling of the sandwich in fondant. I used dowels to keep the top bun from crushing the ham.
I am absolutely shocked that I won the Best in Show, the viewer's choice award, and first place in my division (adult, non-professional) at the first ever Big E Cake Decorating Competition.
This was my entry for the Wilton Castle competition for July. I'm really happy with how it came out.
