16Th Birthday
16th Birthday cake. I searched for Piano cakes and pulled together 4 cakes I really liked and then put this together. I melted a chocolate bar and used the chocolate to pipe the 16. Sherry Wine cake with buttercream. The sparkly decorations are from balloon weights from Dollar Tree that I took apart with wire cutters.

Princess Belle Tea Party Petit Fours
This was my first attempt at petit fours. I used a petit fore cake recipe on mahalo.com, torted and brushed on an almond simple syrup and apricot jam. I really didn't like the taste of the petit four icing recipes I found and I was running out of time so I bought a tub of Wilton Decorator Icing (didn't know if buttercream would hold up) and melted it over a metal bowl of boiling water (as suggested on Wilton.com) and poured it on. Royal icing decorations and Wilton pearl flower centers.

Baptism Pillow Cake
I fell in love with feverfixer's baptism pillow cake and was so excited to have a chance to make one. I used Satin Ice fondant but had NO experience with fondant. I really need to practice more! The figures on top are all out of Wilton gumpaste. The family was very happy with it.

Caerlaverlock Castle
A friend of the family is a descendant of the owners of this castle in Scotland. I replicated it for his birthday using Rice Crispy Treats for the castle. I used wafer cookies for the roof, chimneys and drawbridge and ice cream cone tips for the tops of the turrets. The base cake is covered in buttercream.

Ladies Birthday Cakes
We have many August birthdays in our family. I made each person an individual 4" cake; trying to reflect each ones interests/ personalities. All sherry wine cake and covered with Satin Ice Fondant. I am still really struggling with fondant. I made the flowers using Wilton gumpaste.

Pirate Ship Birthday Cake
I made this cake shortly after we moved. My cake decorating tools, tips and colors were packed away. Chocolate cake with Chocolate Almond Buttercream, Pirouhette cookies for rails, a Peppermint Patty helm, Whopper cannons in the side and Rolos for barrels. The beach is cake scraps frosted with packaged cookie icing (only green I could find at the store) and raw sugar sand. The water was a tube of pre-made also from the store. I was pleased under the circumstances and thought it might might inspire some to improve on the idea.

Commander Cody; Star Wars Clone Wars
Sherry Wine cake (pound cake texture) with vanilla buttercream. The yellow visor is made of styrofoam wrapped in plastic and covered with yellow tinted buttercream and held on with toothpicks. My son was ecstatic! He doesn't like fondant (which I wanted to use) and requested "regular frosting" instead.
