Black "forest" Cake
I made this cake for my funny, yet quite sarcastic, brother-in-law. He asked for a black forest cake. Had I just presented him with a chocolate cake with cherries on top, I'd have gotten a "nice cake" comment. This one should yield a smile, followed by a deep giggle, meaning he understands the trees! Sugar cone buttercream-piped trees, chocolate cake, cherry filling.

Twins 2Nd Bday Cakes
My best friend has fraternal twins and wanted separate cakes for them. Fondant with gumpaste crowns. The blue one is lemon cake with lemon filling; the pink one is white cake with raspberry filling. I painted the crowns with gold luster dust and used silver luster dust for the front bow decorations and the "crown jewels."

Brushed With Love
This is for my niece's 7th birthday. Fondant and royal icing, of course. This is my first time with extension work to prepare for a sugar art show I'm competing in this year. I was thrilled that it came out so well, being my first time and all. Cake is strawberry with straw-creme buttercream filling. *I'll be putting a pink bow around the cake base before presentation. ;)

Twins' 1St Cake
I got this design from a fellow Cake Central member; please forgive my forgetting the name. However, as in usual fashion, I did do a couple of things differently to make it my own. I also want to dedicate this cake - it's the first one I've made since my husband died Feb. 14. He was my cake partner, and I missed his critiques immensely. "To you, Danny."

Steelers Rule
OK let me explain why there's all Steelers, but one Packer. This is my mom-in-law's birthday cake, but we're having her party on Super Bowl Sunday. My hubby and I are huge Steelers fans, so we HAD to do something on the cake that represented our team. Mom-in-law, though, is a Packers fan, so I surrounded their quarterback with some of the Steelers' finest! The steam is royal icing; all other decorations are fondant. Buttercream bead borders. Chocolate cake with Baily's Choc. Mint buttercream.

Hearts And Roses
This is from my advanced cake class that I'm taking from a local artist. Forgive the breaks in the buttercream....the cake went to cake class, back home, then to my work the next day. And we had 7" of snow to drive on! Aside from that, decorations are royal icing, and we're learning lattice and extension work. The cake is chocolate with chai buttercream...yummilicious!!

Meringue Roses
This was my first time with Italian buttercream. While I enjoy how light the decorations are, it was a very moody medium to work with. I wouldn't want to use this too often. The roses are the only meringue items. Everything else is buttercream. This is my famous white cake with HBR filling (huckleberry-blackberry-raspberry). I just couldn't get a wonderful picture, so unfortunately you'll miss all the detail work on the sides. I angled the rose spray to go down the cake.

Haunted House
This cake was inspired by all the great cake makers of this website. I looked at a whole lot of cakes (no pun intended), and this was the design I came up with. I didn't have enough time to really go elaborate on the house. The house is fondant; pumpkins are orange-flavored fondant; bottom layer buttercream.

Clayton Trucking Semi Cake
This cake was made for my father-in-law's 60th birthday. He worked for Clayton Trucking, and he loved his truck there so much. We took millions of pictures. So, when this birthday rolled around (no pun intended), everyone wanted me to try to duplicate his truck. I did, to the best of my abilities. I didn't have enough time to make separate wheels. Other than that, I'm very pleased with its turnout. Fondant and buttercream. Devil's food with devil's food buttercream underneath.

Butterfly Landing
This is a graduation cake from a local cake class. I continue to be impressed with what I'm learning there. This is all buttercream, except for the flowers and butterflies. They're royal icing. Basketweave on the side, zig zag/shell border on the bottom, rope on the top. Devil's food cake.

For Chloe
First, props to melakurtz for her amazing cake, called Layette Baby. I took her idea, but spun a little of my own. Her cake still reigns supreme! As you can see, the buttercream slid quite considerably. This was done before I found out about Crisco's 0 trans fat influence on buttercream's stability. I was crushed! My fondant work was great, as usual, but I wanted to die with the buttercream catastrophe!
