Top book is battered as it was an abusive marriage. We wanted to basically represent an new part of her life. Didn't like the broken heart cakes (not broken hearted) and after 16 yrs married we felt a wedding cake version didn't work either. She was happy with the turnout..
Mom's 70Th Birthday
Mom turned 70 on Thanksgiving this year. Party with Extended family. Gumpaste roses - thanks tonedna for the great tutorial! Cake inspired by one of Londoncakes.com's cakes. 7 is choc w/choc buttercream & 0 is white w/choc butter cream.
It's A Me, Mario!
My 5 year old loves mario. Not as good as I hoped as I am moving and had packed most of my cake stuff (went an bought a few tips, colors and bags just for this cake). All buttercream. He loved it.
For a good friend of my husband and I. His name is Chuck - same as my husband so for the cake I used chuck but I call him charlie. LOL He has a harley and is very proud of it. I really need to work on my piping skills.
Mrs. Reynolds Cake
This was for the aid in my son's pre-k class. They asked for cupcakes but I made both a cake and cupcakes. It was fun she was very surprised. First time using frostin' pride for frosting.
This is my favorite flower to make.... it doesn't exist in real life... but it's pretty. For my mother in laws birthday.
These were for my son's pre-k Easter celebration. Mini's work great for pre-k kids as they don't just lick the frosting off. LOL Handles are candy melts.
St. Patrick's Day
These were for my son's pre-k St. Patty's Day celebration. Mini-cuppies - I love the way the green turned out!
Flurry Of Snowmen
Mini-cupcakes with candy melt snowmen for my son's pre-k party. These were so easy and fun to make.
Lemon Cake with Lemon mousse. Quickly thrown together for the family Christmas. Hubby's aunt called the next day to say how much she enjoyed it.
This was a cake I did for a Pre-K potluck. The picture is the school logo. Thanks for looking.
Tom's Del Mar Don Grad Cake
Tom wanted a german choc cake. So.... he got 2 - the homemade one from the recipes here (Thanks cc) and this one. Had to have one to decorate...ahem... I mean for the non-gcc eaters. LOL The pic in the center is their HS mascot the "Don". Thanks for looking.
Pool Party Cake.
1st tilted cake. For my son's 3rd grade end of year pool party. Beach ball idea came from sugarshack's cake - thank you sugarshack for the template to do the ball. learned much with this cake. Tilted cake with buttercream and warm day = difficult assembly. Everyone at the party raved about it. I love hearing "I was so excited to hear you were doing a cake this year - not only do they look good they taste great too"
This was for my hubby's cousin's college grad. First in the family to graduate from college. Lots of firsts for me on this cake - first homemade fondant, first handmade pearls, first diamond mat cake, first using this much luster (all the burgundy has burgundy luster on it). This is my favorite cake to date - the one I'm most proud of. Inspiration for this cake from the many gorgeous cakes on here.
Bag Of Sunflower Seeds
For my the HS baseball team my hubby is the asst. coach for. We tend to end up supplying the team with sunflower seeds during the season, so hubby thought a bag of seeds would be fun. Been planning in my head how to do this for weeks just waiting for the date..... then hubby tells me 2 days before the event. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out with it being rushed.
Course 3 Final
This is my course 2 final. Luckily I took pictures before I brought it home. I had removed the picks before adding the flowers, and it was too heavy for the buttercream and fell off on the ride home - along with the frosting underneath. Oh well.... But pleased with it overall.
Fondant & Gumpaste Class Final
Lost power the night before class - when I usually get things ready. When assembling before work the morning of class cake started to fall apart. The only thing holding this together is buttercream and fondant. One whole corner colapsed. Totally disappointed with this. - And then of course the purple fondant turned blue from the florescent lights in my office - where it sat all day while i worked. Overall not as bad as I thought it would be but still disappointed.
I attempted to do a fondant flag draped on this. Had TONS of trouble with stripes splitting. Was thrown together last minute for a bbq at a friends.
This is my first fondant covered cake. Course 3 class 2. It was a lot of fun and I can't believe I was so afraid to cover a cake before. LOL. I am pleased with how it turned out.
Splash Into Summer Party Cake
This is the cake I did for my son's 2nd grade splash into summer party. There were 100 people there. My figures were a little larger than I intended so I had to stick them on the corners vs. the middle of each side. Overall pleased with how it turned out. Thanks for Ain2's tutorials or I wouldn't have felt up to even try these. 1st time I did figures. Probably would have been better with the proper tools. Pool on top with a different summer activity on each side.
End Of Season Party Cake
My hubby coaches a HS Varsity team and they are having their end of season party tomorrow. Ball is fondant covered rice krispies. Hubby wanted no fondant so just a few accent pieces. The balls with the player numbers and last names go around the cake.
This is the cake I threw together for my Mother-in-law. Baked the cakes the other day. But wasn't sure what to do with it. Had trouble with icing consistency for roses. So she gets some funky flowers....lol. I guess it's a good thing she's not a my favorite person or I might be upset. Not bad for about an hour of work - including making the frosting.
