It's been a great year for my friend- He was accepted to UCLA grad school, his Steelers won the Super bowl, Obama was innaugruated, and he's expecting a baby girl in June. Gumpaste bow painted with luster dust, FBCT logos, carrot cake with cream cheese icing.

Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!
Fondant covered chocolate ganache cake. Characters done with choclate transfers. Marzipan pumpkins and leaves. Thanks to alleypoo9782 for her inspiration and help!
Wine Picnic Basket
3, 10" round layers of Chocolate cake with cookies & cream filling, carved down to a basket shape. Buttercream basketweave, gumpaste wine bottle, flowers, and napkin, with cakes scraps under it. I made a gumpaste handle for the basket, but the cake wasn't stable enough and the handle never made it on the basket. For the bottle, I used ideas from here on CC- greased a wine bottle, formed the gumpaste around it, let it dry for 24 hours, then took it off thebottle to let the inside dry.
Five layers of 9x13 cake with one styrofoam dummy at the bottom. The front piece with the arches is also styrofoam. The roof is Rice Krispie treats covered in fondant spanish tile. It's all fondant, except for the balcony railing and flower boxes which are chocolate- I wanted something to look edible. :-) The was for a housewarming- I call it my "Salvadore Dali" version of their house, since the fondant did not cooperate and parts were buckling and sagging.
The baseball is Rice Krispie Treats covered in fondant, stitches drawn with an edible pen. It was fun to decorate with traditional buttercream, then smash the ball into it, like it happened accidentally. Everyone loved eating the baseball!
Karaoke Dance Party
Buttercream with fondant accents. Disco ball and microphone are modelled from rice krispie treats. Painted with nu silver luster dust. (Boy, do I need an airbrush!) Took ideas from many cakes on CC- THANKS!
Violet Baby Shower Cupcakes
The baby's name will be Violet, and the nursery is pale green & purple. Booties from gumpaste, violets from royal icing, rest is a cream cheese buttercream on chocolate cake (mom's favorite).
Jack O Lantern
2 bundt cakes, one 10" round in-between, and cupcakes in the bundt cake holes. Buttercream with fondant accents. For a potluck at work today- it was a hit!
I didn't have gardenia petal cutters, so I had to improvise with some help from ShirleyW. First time I've steamed the flowers after dusting with pearl dust, and I really liked the look!
Gardenias And Circles
Top tier was 3, 9"x2" rounds. Base tier was 4, 14"x2" rounds, torted into 8 layers, with a cake board in the middle and dowels supporting it all. Buttercream with fondant accents and gumpaste gardenias (thanks to ShirleyW for her help). BC cracked all the way around the middle board, drooped, and accents fell off in the car- had to re-ice and decorate at the reception. So, it's not perfect, but I'm proud I was able to pull it together despite the problems!
Sunflower And Butterfly Birthday
Followed the instructions here on CC for the butterflies, and I love this method! Fondant flowers, buttercream everything else. Used an idea from one of Thanh Thanh's cakes for the greenery.
First Wedding Cake
THANKS to all at CC who helped and inspired me to do this for my sister!! 16, 12, 8 and 5" cakes. Bottom tier was white with strawberry cream filling, others were chocolate with whipped ganache filling. Buttercream frosting smoothed with Melvira method, fondant details and pearls with pearl dust, gumpaste roses and forget-me-nots. Fashioned after our dresses. Not as perfect as I'd like, but I was Matron of Honor with many other tasks- and my sister loved it. Yay!
Bon Voyage 40Th Birthday
Inspired by many cakes here on CC, but the purse & shoe are a copy of Ksue's. Suitcase & purse are lemon raspberry cake. Shoe is gumpaste. Chocolate fondant on the suitcase sagged a bit, but the regular fondant on the purse came out nicely. Used edible markers on the tags, and old gold luster dust on the accents. My hubby did the eagle on the passport. :-)
Used an edible marker to draw the grid and write the letters on fondant. (Next time I'll definitely do an edible image!) Marzipan pencil, gumpaste flowers. Cup is rice krispie treats covered in marzipan. I don't know why my buttercream cracked so badly.
For a friend who loved my other tiki cake, but wanted LOTS of chocolate and topsy-turvy. I fell in love with modeling chocolate! Used it for the tiki gods. Then used candy melts to pipe the face details. Pirouette cookies around the base, lots of chocolate buttercream and whipped ganache. Gumpaste hibiscus on top. A little gold luster dust on the tikis & plaque.
Swedish Midsummer Party
Herring and beer! Fish and tray are red velvet cake, the beer is rice krispies. All covered in fondant with some gumpate accents. Lots of luster dust! :-) Buttercream+piping gel foam on the beer. Thanks to all on CC who shared tips for the fish and working w RKT!
Blue Shower Cupcake Tower
Chocolate cake with white buttercream. Gumpaste flowers and bow, painted with luster dust. Used a technique I've seen in other photos here for the tower- masonite cake boards covered in contact paper with wine glasses in-between. Worked wonderfully!
Memorial Day Doll Cake
This was supposed to be a pink princess, but the birthday girl won't make it to today's picnic, so it turned into "Liberty Girl" overnight! All fondant & buttercream. The dress is chocolate cake and the base is butter cake, both with raspberry cream filling. Thanks to gladds for her help!
