Fairy Godmother Cake
Not your usual grandmother's birthday cake! However, I've had a fairy godmother/angel watching over me this year--so it's a statement cake! Cake is 2 9" layers with sportsball head. Creme Broulee with apple cinnamon filling. Frosted in buttercream. Sleeves have RI flowers. Pink ribbon, ruffly socks, wings and face features are all fondant. Shoes were the Wilton silly feet stand covered with fondant to make the little Mary Janes. Thanks for looking at this special little lady. She was fun to make.

Monster!
Monsters are fun! This was for a 5-year-olds b-day. New craze: photos from Oriental Trading for inspiration. Cake body was 2 9" layers with sugar cookie inbetween; head was top of giant cupcake. Flavor was Lorann bubble-gum, which kids and adults alike LOVED! Buttercream frosting with fondant accents.

Cookie & Candy Cake
This is certainly a death-by-chocolate cake! Cake was triple fudge, fudge filling with chocolate chip/walnut cookie filling. Lined iwth 3 packages of Kit Kat bars and a 9.4 oz pkg of M&Ms. Folks in my DH's office loved it! Thanks to whomever on CC created this little dandy. It's a breeze to put together!!!!!

Strawberry Drizzle Cake With Ribbon Roses
Party cake--only my drizzle drizzled a little too much! The bumps are chocolate chips, but my friends thought they were cut polka dots! The cake was Scrumptious Strawberry Cake (and it really was!) with b/c icing fondant roses and leaves. Love these roses! Will probably never sit and make the gumpast 20-minute roses again!

Pink Purse Birthday Cake
Little pink purse/bag cake to match party decor and favors. Four strawberry layers with pistachio filling covered in strawberry flavored bc. Handles and dots are fondant. And I gotta hand it to you cake sculpturers! I ended up cutting away more cake than I had left! What a pain! And this was such a simple little design!!! But my 9-year-old granddaughter thought it was just fabulous, so it made it all worthwhile!

Cowboy Hat
OK, buy me books & send me to school.... I thoroughly studied the tutorial here on CC--but there's nothing like trying the real thing! (Actually, this picture looks "rougher" than the hat actually turned out! ) Lesson learned: Make sure the brim of the hat you're using as a mold is perfectly flat! Mine had a funky dip in the front and TWO rims broke. I used mixture of fondant and gumpaste for the rim. Cake was Texas A&M maroon color to match the cakeboard. Was a pretty big hit with my SIL.

Purple Halloween With Curliques
Was so excited about making the cake from the 2005 YB! Took three days to bake cookies, decorate Dracula & bats. Put them safely in a dish away in the oven (I have too many Halloween decorations in the kitchen!). Forgot. Baked another cake and preheated the oven. Have you ever seen a baked Dracula? His fangs had turned brown! Oh well. DH went to Michaels for Gumpaste. Came home with wrong stuff. Went back. They were out. Bought fondant and I spent the night making curliques!

Pansie Basket
Inspired by the 1997 Wilton YB cover! Royal icing pansies, violets & leaves. At last minute decided to paint the insides of the flowers--and it really added depth and brought them to life! Cake is two-layer triple fudge mudslide with dark chocolate b/c icing. Made for a United Way bake sale at work.

Baby - Ethnic
8" and 10" cakes covered in bc. (Color of icing was for ethnic shower.) Arms, feet, cheeks & ears are fondant. Combined hobby of embroidering with cake decor & made a real bib that mom could save and use! The cake board also had "Jackson" over and over. Mom-to-be saved it all (including arms & feet????)!

Whimsical Flower Cake
Two-layer 9" petal pans and 4" cake on top. Cake is b/c, as are baskets/pots. Flowers are fondant on 22 guage wire (prob with wire cutting thru fondant supporting them.) Also prob sticking flowers to wire! YB said to use melted candy melts. Sorta worked! My DH had to take this to his office--bless his heart!!! Cake was mandarin orange with pistachio pudding filling. As a beginner, this project almost made me throw in the towel! I think I got a little over confident, but it turned out pretty cute.

Pirate Chest Birthday Cake
Six cakes!! Three 9x13 on base, and 2.5 8" rounds for top. Buttercream with fondant decor. (Fondant for the wood would have been perhaps better, but I do not like fondant except, of course, for decorative accents). The cakes were "Rainbowlicious" and the kids went crazy! Thanks to this site for all the inspiration!
