Sister In Law's Birthday Cake
vanilla cake, 2 layers torted, filling with apricot buttercream, vanilla buttercream iced, fondant flowers. i finally mastered Duff's roses! I got the design from pish, who's gorgeous cake I didn't come close to replicating, but I loved her idea... thank you for letting me copy this...

birthday cake for my father in law (an avid republican) that was almost a cake disaster (long, uninteresting story). white & chocolate cake, buttercream iced. my brother carved it, my husband and i iced it. despite the troubles it gave me i was pretty pleased. (ignore the crumbs in my icing, etc. :) )

my mother in law's birthday cake and first foray into using royal icing. i love it, but i think i've got A LOT of practicing to do with making flowers. IMO they look pretty ucky. ah well. it's 3 layers, almond vanilla cake, chocolate covered cherry cake (from the Cake Doctor book - FABULOUS recipe), homemade buttercream. tried my hand at a different type of border too ... alright to look at, VERY tasty though :)

My Husband's 26Th Birthday
my husband is a chain saw collector (he owns 59 of them), so we worked together to make him this chainsaw cake for his birthday on Saturday. it's yellow cake with my homemade buttercream, fondant accents, and dragees for the "chain." i'm really proud of it. and it was delicious.

this was a birthday cake for my brother's 23rd birthday ... the bottom layer is basic yellow cake, the "S" layer is dark chocolate, everything iced in tinted buttercream. the actual "S" logo was carved out of colored fondant by my husband. he draped the red "cape" in the corner, as well.
