For A Basketball/soccer Girl
I only make about three cakes per year. This was for my daughter who wanted a soccer ball and something to represent basketball and her running. I'd do many things differently next time (a different color for the cake board, smaller ribbons on the medals) but she was happy. The kids at the party thought it was gross that we put her own (worn) shoe was on the cake, which was a wonderful thing to hear them say.

For My Daughters First Communion It Looks White But Was Actually A Sky Blue The Rosary Was A Very Last Minute Addition That I Stumbled Up
For my daughter's First Communion. It looks white but was actually a sky blue. The rosary was a very last minute addition that I stumbled upon by accident. I made the bottom border out of too-small fondant pearls and I put them on the top of the cake just to move them out of the way. I decided a rosary would look better than my handwriting. :) In hindsight, I wish I'd have put a tiny bit of yellow accents for a pop of color. The cake was from-scratch vanilla with SMBC frosting and Duff's fondant (ran out of my usual).

Justice League
This was for my boys who are Superfriends fanatics. The cartoon is very bright and light-hearted. I ran out of time to sculpt the figures well so I had to buy action figures instead. These looked more menacing so I went way darker with the cake. The buildings represent iconic buildings from each of our hometowns, our current town and the Hall of Justice. Would have done a few things differently but, for as many issues (and visitiing family who were here), I'll give it a pass.

Fisher Price Farm Cake
Made for my son's second birthday. He loves Fisher Price farm stuff so I tried to replicate some of that in the cake. I haven't made a cake since November and am 39 1/2 weeks pregnant. Sooo, this didn't come out perfectly but I'm happy we at least have a cake! Figures are gumpaste. Rest is fondant.

First Birthday Cake
This was for my son's first birthday. The box is covered in fondant. I used Satin Ice's Dark Chocolate for the brown. That stuff was amazing to work with! The lid, bow and tissue paper are all gumpaste. The bow is made up of over 60 individual loops (each with six tiny blue gumpaste polka dots). Next time I'm using a store bought bow! LOL. Tons of work. The bear's body is cake. I carved a head out of cake but it was so heavy. I had to make this cake 2 days before it'll be served and I worried about the weight so I went with RKT instead. It's supposed to look like he's blowing out a candle. Not sure I nailed that part though. The board is covered in fondant as well.

Happy Father's Day
Made for my dad and my husband. They both love golf. This idea was shamlessly stolen from at least 10 other posters here who each managed to make this cake their own. Mine pales in comparison but I appreciate the inspiration they gave me. As always, there are mistakes but I started decorating at 10pm so some of it I'm going to blame on fatigure. :D

Monkeys
These were made for Vacation Bible School....100 cookies. I tried to save some time by making royal icing animals ahead of time. Disaster. The black ran in to the other colors so I tried them again. The second time I let them dry for 2 days. They still bled. :( If they were a paid order, I'd have freehanded them. Since they weren't, I went with what I had. They are my own sugar cookie recipe, glace icing for the base and royal animals.

Happy Nurses Day Cast Cake
I work full time in Orthopedics and made this for our nurses to celebrate Nurses Day. I had great inspiration from a few cakes here, especially ejfrn21's cake. This was made from 4 6 inch rounds, each torted and filled and cut in half. The leg itself is three cakes. The foot is 1 1/2 cakes. The whole thing was iced and then carved and covered in fondant. I wrote on the cast with food color pens. The foot is fondant.

Butterflies And Flowers
What a disaster of a cake! My plan had been to do a bright pink buttercream cake with clustes of pale pink flowers. THe buttercream color was awful so I decided to cover it in blue fondant. For some reason, a side tore so I had to do a patch job. Plan B was to add some flowers leading up to the butterfly but I had to add a few more "paths" of flowers to cover the atrocious patch job. LOL! Oh well. It's cake. They'll eat it, right?

Twilight Tshirt
This was made for my 34 year old friend who is obsessed with the Twilight series. She always says, "I heart Edward" so this is the cake she got. The necklace is made to match one she wears all the time. I tease her that I'm going to start shopping for her at Hot Topic so I added a little tag to the shirt as well. It's free-handed on gumpaste.

Shoe Box Cake
This was made for a fundraiser at our church. It was a good excuse to learn a few things. :) The shoe, lid, and flower are half gum paste, half fondant. The tissue is all gum paste. The cake itself if yellow with mocha filling. I was really happy with the wood floor. It looks like my kitchen. :) I really hope this thing sells! Can you imagine it sitting there by itself if it doesn't? LOL. Oh man. :(

Wizard Of Oz
This was for my daughter's 4th birthday party. She loves the Wizard of Oz and wanted all of the characters on the cake. It was a labor of love and while there are certainly imperfections, she was happy with it. The cake itself was two flavors. The top was a chocolate cake with peanutbutter filling. The bottom was a rainbow cake. All the details are from fondant. Thanks for looking! I'm always open to constructive criticism too!

Wizard Of Oz
This was a practice cake for my daughter's preschool class. I'm making a two tiered version for our family/friend party next week. The cake and frosting were layered in the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). It's covered with fondant. The shoes are fondant covered in sanding sugar. They were a pain in the neck because I couldn't find a template. I'm not thrilled with the bulging side but some of the posters here were kind enough to give me some tips for next time.
