Teacher Appreciation Cruise Cake
This was for my granddaughters elementary school end of year teacher appreciation lunch. Theme was cruise and nautical. This gave me a chance to try a suitcase which I've been wanting to do. Thanks for CC for all the great suitcase and cruise ideas. The bottom cake was chocolate with fudge frosting, the ocean layer was white cake with strawberries and cream filling and the cruise ship was rice crispy treat covered in fondant. The cake and almost all the elements are fondant except the sea shells which are melting chocolate using a sea shell mold. The base is covered in brown sugar for a sand effect. This actually turned out much better than I imagined and everyone was very impressed. Thanks for looking.

Rock N Roll Birthday Cake
My granddaughter picked out a rock and roll theme from the party store for her invitations, napkins, etc. My inspiration was the napkin which had lots of great elements to use on her cake. This was her choice of german chocolate cake with coconut pecan filling. Most of the cake was fondant with the rock n roll elements out of either gumpaste or fondant. This was a huge hit for her 7th birthday. Had fun making it. Sorry its so dark. Thanks for looking.

Memorial Day Cupcakes
My first attempt at creative cupcake making. Simple flag for Memorial Day event at work. Easy to do if you lay the cupcakes on a grid paper first then just follow the pattern. Some chocolate and some vanilla cupcakes with buttercream, matching colored sugar sprinkles to add sparkle and white fondant stars. This was fun to make and everyone enjoyed it.

Motherss Day Flowers In A Pot
I got this idea from a recent Cake Central magazine although I substituted Gerbera daisies for the roses. The cake (pot) was a simple chocolate cake and white cake with chocolate mousse fillling alternated choc/white/choc/white. Looked lovely when cut. My granddaughter (age 7) helped me with the flowers. We worked on them about a week before Mother's Day. She loves being in the kitchen with me. Everyone was very impressed, as was I, as it turned out just like I hoped. so many great ideas in the CC magazine. I wish I was talented enough to try them all. Thanks for looking

California Gurls
I was inspired by my daughter's ring tone of "California Gurls" by Katie Perry. Thie stacked cake had the lyrics for the first line wrapped around all three layers. Then added elements from the song such as "daisy Dukes" jeans, bikini tops, popcicles melting, sun, sun glasses, etc. She was so surprised and loved it. Thanks for looking

Copy Cat Flower Cake
I absolutely LOVED one of the cakes in the new CC magazine and did my own take on it. I changed the top because mine was a birthday cake and not a wedding cake and made additional flowers for the topper. Turned out better than I hoped and I'm glad I did it. I am so inspired every month with the cakes in the CC magazine. I will be a subscriber for life!

Exhausted Scientist
I made this for a 30th birthday for a scientist, her husband wanted her at her desk exhausted. I made the figures out of modeling chocolate - first attempt with this medium and sculpting people and small objects. Desk is rice treats covered in fondant. Floor is fondant covered 14x14 cake - requested white cake with blueberry filling. Very proud of this first attempt at sculpting people. Everyone went crazy and the bday girl wouldn't let anyone cut it. No dessert served at that party!! ha ha.Thanks for looking.

Diva Baby Shower Cake
I made this for my daughter's friend who was having a Diva Princess baby shower. The theme was pink and black and white. I made a diaper cake as the gift and then matched it with the cake. 3 different flavors for the cake and assorted fillings. Covred in fondant and decorated with fondant. I used the grass tip to emulate fur at the bottom and made the tiara out of gumpaste so it would dry hard. Everyone loved it and didn't want to eat it. Too cute. Thanks for looking.

Mike's Tool Box
I made this for my handyman brother's 60th birthday. The tool box is choc cake with peanut butter filling. the sides are fondant/gumpaste mixed so it would dry stiff enough to hold the dowel across the top - this was tricky and I did a practice cake. Some of the accessories are gumpast and others are chocolate. Ordered a candy mold for tools and got a saw, hammer, screwdriver etc which worked well for chocolate. The other accessories such as rag, paintbrush and tape measure are gumpaste or fondant. Everyone loved it and he was especially pleased as we've said for years whenever anything needed fixed..."Get Mike". Thanks for looking

Treasure Chest
I made this for a "We Treasure You" teacher end of year party. The base cake was vanilla with bc filling covered in bc and topped with brown sugar and raw sugar mixture for a sandy look. I made the map out of fondant. The treasure chest base was choc cake with vanilla bc filling covered in fondant pulled with a woodgrain technique. The lid was rice cereal and marshmallow covered in fondant. I used cardboard to make sure it was sturdy enough. Accents included chocolate shells, gumpaste crab, chocolate coins (store bought) and lollipop recipe gems - I bought a candy mold with small gems in assorted shapes and tinted the lollypop recipe different colors. All in all it tourned out fabulous and was a hit at the teacher luncheon but took many many hours of preparation and even a practice treasure chest to get it right.

Panorama Egg Cake
I was making sugar panorama eggs with my granddaughter before Easter and got the idea to try a panorama cake. Started with two oval (egg shaped) cakes then stood them upright and carved a little opening in the front about 3" deep. Covered the whole thing in bc and then patted on sugar crystals (large) over the whole thing (except the peep hole) so it looked like sugar. Then decorated the inside of the peep hole and added a store bought chocolate bunny. This was a birthday cake for someone whose birthday fell on Easter. It was a big hit, but it eventually cracked because it was a little top heavy. Next time I'll put some sort of internal support system. This was hard but I love a challenge. Thanks for looking.

St. Patrick's Cake
This was a stacked cake and I tried a topsy turvey effect...didn't turn out like I hoped. I wanted to make a pot of gold on the top but that didn't turn out like I hoped either. Still it was a hit at work. Next time I'll do better. I alway learn something when I do a cake and that's what this whole cake making thing is all about. Thanks for looking.

Purse Cake
This was my first attempt at using the dotted line tool to make the stitching effect on a purse. Love this tool! Make the purse look real. I made this out of chocolate cake, one 16" round cut in half, then scooped out some from the top to make it dip in. The purse is covered in fondant but I used gumpaste for the handle so it would dry hard. I ran a small wire through the gumpaste so I could insert it into the purse. This was for a birthday cake and everyone was thrilled...me too. Love this new tool! Thanks for looking.

Bridal Shower Cake
I made this purse cake for a friends bridal shower. She asked for vanilla cake with coconut frosting, and I did the purse out of chocolate cake and used the same coconut frosting. Yum! My first effort with a gumpast high heel shoe. I think I need more practice. The color was light lavendar but in the photo it is way too dark...must be my camera. I also tried a new technique of cutting out the polka dots and then inserting the same size/different color dot so that it was flush with the cake and not pasted on top. I covered the cake in fondant and then used a small circle cutter and cut out right on the cake. This was a little tricky but I really liked the final result. Thanks for looking.

Wine And Cheese Party
I made this wine bottle cake for a wine and cheese theme birthday party. The bday boy is into surfing which explains the label. The cake was white with bc. two layers and the wine bottle chocolate with chocolate bc. I baked the wine bottle in cans to give it that perfect round look...easier than carving. Fondant woodgrain technique usedfor the crate, cheese, grapes and bottle covered in fondant. Mounted on a wooden cutting board which made the presentation perfect. It was a big hit. My 4th wine bottle and I'm getting better at it. Thanks for looking.

Valentine Candy Box
I made this valetine box for my mom's 88th birthday. The cake was dark chocolate with bc frosting covered in fondant.. I scooped out about a inch from the top layer and added dark choc frosting. Hand made candy from assorted molds and gold paper candy liners. I tried to make chocolate liners but they kept breaking. The lid is a cake covered in fondand but I should have put a piece of cardbard on there because it was very fragile. Looked great and everyone was amazed.

Purses For Birthday
My first attempt at purse cakes and I made 4 different ones. To get the shapes I baked in different sized pans, oval, round, square and heart shaped. Each cake was two layers, different cakes and filing combinations but all covered in fondant and embellished. Handles were made with gumpaste and dried overnight. The pink handle was gumpaste balls rolled and threaded through fine wire to hold the shape. Thanks to all the purses on this site which gave me my inspiration. I've posted more pictures with closeup of each purse on this site. Be brave and try a purse cake...they are so much fun! Enjoy and thanks for looking.

Bulldog
Thanks to the other great bulldog cakes on this site. I started with two 9 x 13 cakes (marble) filled with bc and topped with white fondant. I used a doll cake pan for the head and carved it down a little but liked the cone shape of the pan for the head and it worked out great. Rolled the fondant kinda thick so I could wrinkle it up all over the body, head and neck for a more lifelike look. Airbrushed brown and black details. It was a big hit...the guy I made it for is a salesman from the word go and always looking for the next big deal to close...the gold bulldog in the pix sits on his desk and the bone is rice crispy cereal and melted chocolate candy shaped like a bone. Thanks for looking. this was a fun cake to do!

Halloween Cakes
Thanks to everyone for their creative ideas for my Halloween cake for work. Bottom cake is chocolate chocolate chip with chocolate ganache, middle is banana cake with peanut butter ganache and top is lemon with lemon curd filling. All covered in fondant. Baked bottom cake in bundt pan and then carved indentations to exaggerate the pleats in the pumpkin. Light orange fondant airbrushed with a darker orange for effect. Loved how this turned out and was a big hit at work. Mounted it on a birthday cake stand that I had that has feet on the bottom and it looked perfect! Thanks for looking.

Hamburger
Hamburger cake for family reunion picnic. Used 8" bottom and top (left the top rounded) and 10" center. Buttercream frosting all over - center layer I added crumbled chocolate cake pressed into the side of the buttercream. Suggested by another on this site for realistic burger effect and it worked great. Fondant cheese and lettuce. Used real sesame seeds toasted for the top. Was lots of fun to do and a big hit at the party. Thanks for looking.

Blackjack Birthday
Made this for my 92 yr old mother in law who still calls her bookie every day! She loves blackjack and I was so inspired by the other gambling cakes on this site. Thanks to all you muses out there -- as a newbie to cake decorating I really need the help and inspiration. Made a 14" marble cake with butterscotch ganache, fondant on the outside for everything including cards3-, chips, banner etc. This was a very fun cake to do. Also I tried the vodka and food coloring wash on the wood finished front for the shiney effect....loved how it made the woodgrain shine like polished wood. Thanks for looking.

Sushi Cake
For my daughter's birthday...she loves sushi. Thanks to all the other cakes for their inspriation. I had fun making the various sushi elements and used coconut mixed with white chocolate for the rice. The hardest was making the chopsticks with flat sides..worked on that for quite a while. Yellow cake with oreo chocolate ganache filling. This was a very fun cake to make and everyone loved it. Thanks for looking

Plumeria Branch Cake
I'm posting this cake even though it was a near disaster. I made so many mistakes from this cake but was glad for the lessons. First I made the base too small and the cake nearly tipped over during transport...next time I will make a much larger base cake and have the tiers graduated in size. Also each layer was over 4" high which made the cake unstable. I made a chocchoc chip with rasp filling, then banana with pnutbutter mousse and lemon with lemon curd on top. Tasted great but was horrible to transport. Live and learn! Thanks for looking.
