Old, New, Borrowed, Blue
I was inspired to make this cake by a picture of a couture wedding dress I saw online - it had a very interesting texture on the skirt, almost like wisps of material. The top tier represents a bride's headpiece, the middle her corset, and the bottom the skirt. The flowers are made of gumpaste, and I experimented with cutting and twisting to create the textured look of the flowers on the bottom tier.

Animals At The Fair Cake
The theme for the county fair was "Fun for the whole herd," so I made a cake that included the whole herd: girl, sheep, pig, and even a chicken riding the ferris wheel. The barn, sunflowers, and rolling hills reflect the area where I live. Pretty much everything is MMF and gumpaste; they allowed forms (hooray!) so I used styrofoam bases for the layers and the shape of the barn. Thanks to the many cakes of farm scenes on CC where I drew my farm animal inspiration! The cake won Best of Class.

Sitting By The Canoe
This was my first attempt to make people and dogs - and I love it! Thank you a gazillion to Lorraine's (aine2) tutorial on how to make characters, it is extremely helpful and I am sooo glad I went for it and bought it. The people and dog are made of MMF, and the canoe is formed from gumpaste with royal frosting seats and a fondant middle piece (the royal broke, whoops) and then painted to look like the couple's cedar strip canoe.

The Game Cake, Part 2
Note: This is pic 2 of 2, so you can see the completely different other side. This cake was made for a woman's 40th birthday party that had a games theme. It was my first topsy-turvy cake - very exciting - and I created a giant game board in the style of Candyland that traveled up and around the cake. In true Candyland fashion, there were little areas around the gameboard: UNO Forest, Twister Wood, Chutes and Ladders Lane, Dice Tree, Domino Mountain, and Go Fish Swamp.

She didn't want it covered in fondant so there's a BC base with fondant and gum paste decorations. Pic 1 of 2.

Arizona Places
This cake celebrated a couple's travels through Arizona and all the great places they saw. The bicycle (I didn't have the time or space to make 2, whoops!) is gumpaste with toothpick spokes, and the large pole is made of a couple chopsticks covered in royal frosting to give it the rough look. The cactus are MMF covered with BC. This was my first attempt at a large gumpaste figure, and I certainly learned a lot in the process! Yee ha!!

Happily Ever After
This is the cake that I made for Wilton's Castle Contest for the month of February (hence the love theme). Alas, I did not win, but it was a lot of fun to make! Most everything is covered with MMF, and some of the decorations (top of the tower, top of the Tunnel of Love, crowns) are gum paste.
