Hamspider from Cloudy part 2. The bun is a torted 9"x2" and the hamburger is a 9"x2". All fondant covered. Bun hand painted. Tomato is Styrofoam. Spaghetti with red candy melts for the ketchup saliva. Strawberry and square "happy birthday" sign are cake.
What a nightmare! My husband's great idea was to cover the cake in black fondant and then another layer of red fondant. He wanted to then cut out the windows so the black would show through. I went forward with the idea against my better judgement. I layed the black fondant onto the frozen cake and then it sweated. We let it set until 11pm and then decided to get up at 5am to finish (if we would have laid the red on top of the black before dry it would have stuck and defeated the idea of cutting out the red). So at 2am I discovered the electricity was out. At 5am it was still out and didn't come back on until 8am. This cake was decorated by flash light! Very tough. Ended up that the black fondant cracked.
This cake was requested for a baby shower to match the theme of the baby's room and of course his name.
