Turtle Birthday Cake 2 Of 2

Chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream for a girls 5th birthday. Cake baked in a metal bowl. Shell, head and present are cake, rest is icing. I taped up the shell and then airbrushed the dark green. Shell is sitting on a stack of icing covered boards.

3 of 5: Closeup of the plaque on top. Birthday boy requested to have this equation on top, as he is studying engineering at uni. It is approximately equal to 21. You read the plaque as "Happy 21st Darren". Airbrushing on the letters and plaque. Plaque is on a 6inch cardboard.

Darren's 21St Birthday Cake

1 of 5: Caramel mud cake with dark chocolate ganache. Two stacked cakes, covered as one. Top is 8inch, bottom is 6inch, carved to get shape. Light green fondant, masked and airburshed red. Airbrushed plaque and letters. The fondant ended up really lumpy, so I added panels to the sides which turned out a bit smoother. I cut off the double layer of fondant when serving. Chilies have chili powder kneeded in, as requested by birthday boy.

1 of 4: My sister keeps ordering gift cakes for her friends birthdays. Cake is 3.5inch diameter. Shoe is 2cm long. Cake and pillow is mudcake. Airbrushed red and purple. Luster dusted pillow and top corner of cake. Used sugarcraft gun for the ropes and pillow edges. Flower made with calyx cutter. So much fun to make this one.

Made my Stargazers using these templates, which were made from a real Pink lily. Use the wider template for the front 3 petals and the skinnier one for the back 3 petals. Stick template on cardboard so it can be used repeatedly.

Tilted Gift Cake

Another view of 21st gift cake. 4inch cake with the bottom layer carved to give the tilt. Top layer is light purple fondant that is airbrushed in purple to give the vivid colour. Bottom layer is white fondant that has been painted with green royal icing. Strawberries and "21" are modeling paste. "21" was supposed to be standing up, but the cake would be too tall for the box. Edilbe purple glitter on top.

Modeled the clownfish out of orange modeling paste, then added white paste stripes and painted lines with black food colouring. Coral is modeling paste. Sea weed and blue water texturing is royal icing painted on with a brush.
