Guess What It Is?
I made this cake for my father in law. He is 83. I was praised by everyone that saw it till I figured out by a comment that maybe some people didn't know what it was. That was a first for me. So I am asking you now, do YOU know what it is? I'll give you a minute to think. OK, here's the answer, it's an old fashioned radio. I had gotten some crazy answers when people guessed.

Princess Pillow
I asked my friend what kind of cake she wanted and she joked she wanted something with a crown. So I got a crown from the local party store and carved my first pillow. I used buttercream on it. I can tried to smooth it with a non viva papertowel. BAD NEWS!! Then I had to try to fix all that. It was a learning experience and she liked it.

Football Cake
I swore I wasn't going to make a cake if the Pat's didn't get to the superbowl but as decorators you know we can't pass up a cake if we really are itching to make one. I used a 13 inch oval and carved off the sides and edges to give it a more traditional shape. I hadn't done that before. I could critique what is wrong with it but I know I was rushed. My family was out in the car waiting for us to leave for a party. Two hours before the party I started mixing the cake batter. lol

Fish Tank
As a family we all did decorated this cake. My 10 year old frosted it. My 6 year old decorated with the fruit roll ups and gold fish. He put the right amount of fish for Dad's age. Then I wrote the words around the fish. Someone smudged the words before I could take the picture but we are all still proud and happy we did it together.

Vanilla Pudding Pie "tweaked"
My daughter is more creative than I expected. I let her make a vanilla pudding pie (I know, it's not cake) and she made it her own by putting marshmallows in the puddding and a chocolate syrup smiley face on top. I was really proud of her for being so creative with it. Not everyone would attempt the marshmallows, or expect it to be good afterward.

Ming Ming From The Wonder Pets
I purchased the Suzy Zoo Pet cake pan off ebay. The day after I got it in the mail I got a request for a baby chick from the Wonder Pets. How great is that to be able to use a pan so fast?? I altered it and came up with this. It's all BC except for the fondant helmet and the paper sign (I ran out of time to get a royal icing one made.

Laborday Weekend
This cake should really be titled "every weekend". This is where we spent every weekend last summer in our neighbor's yard. The chairs and some other accessories are toys from my daughter. The trees are ice cream cones. The people are a sad attempt but had to be done since that's where we were always sitting. They loved it and I loved making it. The fountain was carved into a soccer ball cake on top of two 9 x 13 cakes. I didn't have a bigger pan at the time.

Imaginext Pirates
I realized I didn't have too many pictures of cakes for my son so I whipped this one together with his pirate toys. I took advice from here to make the sand. It's a mix of white granulated sugar and dark brown sugar. I put it on top of the tan icing so it could easily be scraped off and still have something tasty on it. The kids loved the sugar anyway.
