Rubber Ducky Shower
Cake designed for rubber ducky themed baby shower for brother-in-lawâs wife. Cake is six layers of chocolate with butter cream icing. Duck is sculpted puffed rice treat. All are covered with fondant. Shower head constructed of segments of copper pipe and a wood cutout painted silver. âWaterâ is tinsel glued to underside of showerhead. Trickiest part was getting the pipe aligned with the socket screwed to the cake board after all six layers were in place.

Christmas On The Farm
My sister is president of her sons FFA (Future Farmers of America) Booster club, and she asked us to develop a Farm / Christmas themed cake for their holiday dinner. The result is 50 pounds worth of Barn, icing, candy animals, and Christmas trees. Barn is 5 layers of cake, butter cream icing and a fondant roof. Animals are made from candy melts. Trees are iced ice-cream cones. Snow and mud are butter cream. Bit of a strange theme, but the FFA members loved it.

"larry" The Roasted Pig
This is the main cake for my Brother-In-Laws Luau engagement party. Its red-velvet with cream-cheese inside and butter-cream outside. The scorch marks are air-brushed. Ears & tail are fondant. Body is four layers of cake, with legs carved out. Neck and head are 9 round and a doll pan. This was our first time to make a cake of this size. Unfortunately the skin that formed on the icing overnight cracked as the cake jiggled during transit. (Learned about need for internal support. ;-D)

Smoking Volcano Cake
This is the second cake we made for my Brother-In-Law's Luau themed engagement party. It's a chocolate cake made from graduated sizes of round pans, with a "doll pan" for the top, carved to form a cone. The icing is various kinds of chocolate icing. The "lava" at the top is red candy-melts. There is a small shot-glass inside the crater. The addition of water and small chips of dry-ice yielded a smoldering volcano. (The lean of the cake is intentional to mimic a natural volcano.)

Biker Cake
Cake made in celebration of a major accomplishment by my brother, an avid Harley Davidson rider. Road and grass are butter cream. Figure and bike are fondant supported with popscicle sticks built into the wheels and motorcycle engine. Whole shebang measured 32" from end to end. The cake was meant to symbolize an open road ahead of him.

Biker Closeup
Close-up photo of figure / motorcycle. Both bike and biker are made of fondant. Used pieces of bamboo skewers and shaped wire for structural supports. Unfortunately, the figure was a bit too heavy for the bike once the two were mated, causing the middle of the bike to sag. Flames are painted food coloring. Tail lamp is a leg cut off of a gummi-bear.

Bed And Marbles
Cake for my step-father's 60th Birthday. All but headboard and footboard are rolled fondant. Coffee can is cake. Marbles and can are dusted in shimmer dust to look like frost from freezer. (The story behind this is that my step-father used to threaten to dump frozen marbles into the bed if we were sleeping late. He'd walk down the hallway shaking them in a coffee can. If you can imagine, frozen marbles will seek the lowest point in the bed, which is where you're laying...and they don't ever melt!)

This Is Your Life - Scrapbook
My first posting to the board. We made this cake for my sister's Black & White themed 40th birthday. She is very involved in scrap-booking, so we made a 'this is your life' book chronicling major stages of her life for the last 40 years. The photos are laminated copies of old pictures. Behind each photo is a fondant backer with captions done in food coloring pen. All else is butter cream. Cake is a double layer of 12x15 sheets, yellow on one side, chocolate on the other, carved into book shape.
