Irish Dancing And Skateboarding
One of my daughter's Irish dancing teachers is turning 21 this weekend--and so is her boyfriend! They asked me to make a cake that combined their two passions, Irish step dancing and skateboarding. I really struggled with what to do, until I realized that the common element was flight. Thus was born the gumpaste silhouette cake toppers with the leaping dancer and skateboarder rocketing through the air. The rest of the cake is much more generic, but delicious! Chocolate cake with Bailey's Irish cream buttercream. I couldn't resist, since the Irish dancer's name is Bailee. ;-)

Irish Step Dancing Cookies
My little friend Kenzie is heading off to the World Championships of Irish step dancing on Monday! She'll have her birthday while she's in Belfast for the competition, so I'm sneakily coordinating with her mom to send her with cookies, since they won't be able to have their usual cake. I duplicated the solo dress she'll wear at the Worlds, the medalions that hang behind the dancers on stage, shoes, and trophy.

Cupcake Cookies

I've had this cupcake cutter for a few years, but have never used it! So glad I had the chance to use this charming, easy cutter.

Irish Step Dancing Cookies
My friend passed her T.C.R.G.s (3 day certification exam to become an Irish step dancing teacher) on her first try! I threw together a little celebration to celebrate her accomplishment. I made cookies that look like each of the solo and class dresses she wore through her years of competition.

Winter Country Scene Made Of Cookies
At our annual gingerbread house decorating party, there's already so much sugar that we don't need a dessert table. But I came up with the idea of making the backdrops for the beverage and food tables INTO a cookie display! I wanted it to look like a folk art painting of a winter country scene. Charming little houses and barns, sleighs, trees, snowmen, and Santa, of course!

Egyptian Pyramid Cake
My daughter's 8th birthday theme was Egyptology--so much fun!! I got pretty close to the right shape with my carving, and only had to spackle in a little on the edges to get the fondant panels to touch. ;-) The hieroglyphs on the pyramid door spell out "Happy Birthday Ainsley."

Gnome Cake
A cake and dessert table I made for my friend's daughter. Classic Gnome theme (think Wil Huygen). The cake is a simple carrot cake with cream cheese icing, with royal icing embellishments on the side (mimicking the fabric I used in the party), and the topper is made of gumpaste. The actual table part of the miniature gumpaste dessert table on top of the cake is made of rice krispie treats.

Brush Embroidery Pink And White Flowers
I'm organizing a baby shower this Saturday, and these are the cupcakes I made. It's a Secret Garden theme, and I'm playing with texture more than color with these cookies and the entire display. I've never done brush embroidery work before, and am delighted that it worked just as I'd hoped it would!

Garden Path Cupcakes
I remember seeing something like this from Zalita on flickr several years ago, and never forgot. So when my daughter's little friend asked for something with "flowers and butterflies and pastel colors" for her birthday, this is what came to mind. Plus, it was another chance to use my rice paper sparkly butterflies! I love those things.
