Seussical The Musical Cake
This cake was for my son's cast party after their last performance of Seussical Jr (a shorter version of Seussical the Musical). The only specifications I had were for the flavor, theme, and number of servings (70). This was my first time making a fondant figurine--it was so much fun to do. The odd things sticking out on the sides of the elephant are wings--he's actually an elephant bird. The "clover" are Tootsie Pops with fondant covering them. The sign on top is a chocolate transfer. Thanks for looking!

Seashell Cake For Retirement Party At Beach
This two-tier cake was made for a retirement party at the beach. Icing is all-butter buttercream. Shells are molded chocolate, dry-dusted with luster dust. Pearls are fondant with luster dust. Water on top is tinted piping gel, textured with a spatula to make ripples. Sand is graham cracker crumbs mixed with brown sugar. Colors in the picture were really off, as you can see from the inset pictures, which are more color-correct.

Castle Cake
Cake made using the Wilton castle pan. I made this about 4 years ago, before I had discovered Cake Central. The friend that it was for loves Disneyland, and the castle was meant to represent Sleeping Beauty's Castle, with fireworks going off above it. [A friend added the candle, because "a birthday cake has to have candles. I'd only let her put one, though!}

Martial Arts Cake
This is (yet another) cake for a black belt ceremony at my martial arts studio. One of the students testing selected this image because she thought it looked sort of like her. (And one of the other students testing is a teenage boy with brown hair, like the "victim".) I transfered the image to the cake using piping gel, and filled with BC. Cake is a 9 X 13 WASC with crusting BC. I had a lot of fun making this one.

Kids Black Belt Cake
This is the first of two cakes I made for a belt ceremony at my martial arts studio. (I'll upload the other as soon as I have a picture.) The cake has two NFSC, decorated to be wearing karate uniforms with black belts. The borders were done using the icing plug method, which I was using for the first time. The sensei and families loved the cakes, and the cake mix extender recipe made the cake less crumbly, which meant less clean-up. Plus it tasted good. The two cakes for this time were a lot of fun to do.

Shape Sorter Cake With Shape Cookies
I baked this cake for a friend's son's first birthday. The only detail I could get out of her was "no chocolate". The boy loves to play with his shape sorter toy, so I thought that would make a good cake. Bottom is 9X13 yellow cake with apricot filling. Top cake is 6" round with raspberry filling. Cake icing is crusting BC. "Holes" on top of sorter are edible paper colored with edible markers. (No chocolate allowed, even for that!) Cookies are NFSC with RI. I had fun making this cake.

Painted Star Cookie
These cookies were made for Hanukkah and Christmas parties. They are Rolled Chocolate Sugar Cookies. (I made NFSC, too.) Icing is royal, diluted until the trail left by a small spatula drawn through the icing disappeared in a count of 10. The base color was piped on, and then dots or lines were piped on in contrasting color(s). A toothpick was used to create the effects, Cookies are about 2 1/2" across.

Memorial Service Cake
This cake was made in the Wilton 2 mix book pan (with 2 1/2 doctored mixes). The grass was done with Tip 233, and the leaves were done with 352. The cake was for my DH's step-father's memorial service. The quote was requested by my MIL. (In the last days, it was something he said to her, when asked what he was dreaming about.) DH's step-father was a large man, who nobody could really picture tiptoeing anywhere.

Basket Of Fall Flowers
This cake is for a coworker's birthday. The bottom part (basket) is lemon cake filled with lemon curd and iced with lemon buttercream. The top part was baked in a Pyrex bowl, and is mini-chocolate chip devil's food with chocolate buttercream filling and icing. The flowers are all royal. (Many of the flowers only exist in my own imagination!) This is the second time I have done basketweave, and the first was 8 years ago in Course 2. I had a lot of fun doing this cake, and hope it survives the trip to work!

Cake With Chocolate Transfer
The cake was for a martial arts studio anniversary and going away party for one of the instructors. This is my first attempt at chocolate transfer. I was very pressed for time, so I am sorry to say that the cake was purchased undecorated. I decorated it with BC and the chocolate transfer. The instructor cut it with a Samurai knife. Very efficient, quick way to cut the cake!

Fondant Blooms
My son did this fondant cake in his Wilton Course 3 class. He wanted to use more colors for the fondant shapes, but there was really limited time in which to do the cake, by the time he had finished making his fondant roses. He decided to save those for another cake. I think he has a really good eye for form and design, and has a great future in cake decorating. (Uh-oh, competition!)
