Waterfall Fun
I made this for our festival cake contest. It is 4 round tiers with the waterfall starting at the top and coming down all 4 tiers to pooling onto the board. Iced in BC, the water is piping gel covering icing with peaks. The kayak/man and the rocks are fondant. Rocks are swirled with food colors to make them look more real. I tried making royal icing(1st time) for the pine trees, but had to resort to stiff bc icing when the royal didnt work out. I was surprised when it won 1st place!!!

Packed House At The Racetrack
My 18 year old daughter made this for 1st place at our fall festival. She stacked 2 sheet cakes and carved the top one. Decorated in Butter creme, the fans are nerds candy and the race cars are mike and ikes. She ran short on time and had to rush a few things but was surprised to have still won the contest.

Fishbowl
My 12 year old son made this cake for our town festival cake contest this weekend. We had 8 different cakes going and his was the last one and was sort of a rush job. He was waiting for me to make piping gel for the first time, and it didnt work out, so he was scrammbling to throw a game plan B together. It was good enough to get 3rd place but we were a little disappointed that he couldnt do what he wanted to. The seaweed is fondant, the coral is royal icing, the rocks are nerds and colored goldfish.

Cowgirl Boot
My 8 year old daughter won 2nd place for this cowgirl boot decorated with rolled fondant. I had to help her get the shape right on the cake. She colored the fondant and rolled it out. I helped her do a lot of the smoothing and tucking on the finished end. I also helped her with the designing on the boot. She finished up with the sole and the spur but I had to help her get it to stay on the cake.

Just The Toppers For An Ice Cream Cake
I was asked to do an ice cream cake for a baby shower, for a friend at church. Because I didn't have a way to keep the cake really cold or frozen, I knew that I would have to come up with a plan to get the decorating on quick and easy. These decorations are all shaped out of rolled fondant. I then took the food colored markers to draw on the fondant for things like the bib, blocks, teddy bear etc. It turned out adorable and the ladies loved it. I am trying to get a copy of the finished cake.

Rodeo Time
This cake won first place in our festival for a western theme. It is decorated in rolled fondant. Sorry for the poor quality with the wrap on it. We didn't get a picture before they wrapped it. The middle layer is white buttercream icing piped on to make the paisleys. The horse shoes on top are solid rolled fondant. I think the bright colors really set this cake off.

Penguin Playland
My 13 year old son made this for the festival and won 1st place. The water is piping gel colored blue. The tree is a sugar cone (ice cream) turned upside down and iced in green buttercream. The cake is iced in buttercream icing and fluffed up for peaks of snow. The igloo was a round pan but the slide is just made from cake scraps. Most of the rest of the decorating is done in fondant. The snow was luster dusted to get the glittery effect of real snow.
