This was done as a favor for a friend who was actually supposed to make the cake but had to leave town unexpectedly, so she referred the couple to me. The bride & groom wanted a really basic, no frills cake and gave no other direction other than an agreed 11 x 15 size (chosen before I came into the picture). White cake with all buttercream.
When I was brainstorming for Amanda's Birthday Cake I knew I wanted to make a red velvet cake torted with chocolate ganache. When I had the cake assembled I got the bright idea of doing the cow pattern (Amanda loves cows). Amanda and our fellow co-workers got a huge laugh when we cut into the cake though... I never gave a though to an "animal" cake with red insides. There were lots of "I like mine rare" comments and a lot of laughs. Amanda LOVED it. Whew! Frosted with buttercream.

This cake was made for a co-workers office birthday. They liked carrot cake but would't give me any ideas on the design so I gave them what they asked for. Everyone loved it. Cake was from scratch. I used a 9x13 pan and cut off the corners. The top two corners were used for the greenery and the bottom corners I cut into layers and stacked them on the top. Covered with crusting cream cheese frosting (recipe from cakecentral).
After a recent visit to Sesame Place, my daughter fell in love with Zoe. Since I had the Elmo pan already from her first birthday I thought I'd try to make Zoe. I think it turned out ok but I seemed to have more trouble than normal with my BC.
Small oval cake, basketweave with BC, flowers in Royal and Birds in color flow.
12" round base and a 6 c. Pyrex bowl for the top. Buttercream frosting and mmf ribbon/bow. This was my first attempt at making and using fondant.

9 x 13 with buttercream
This was my first attept at an 11 x 15 cake. Done all in buttercream. It was my most detailed cake and I think my best cake so far. I think doing a drawing and asigning colors and tips beforehand really helped.
I had left over cake & frosting after making my candy corn cake so I thought I'd play. I think it turned out pretty good for not having ever done this boarder or lace before.

I tried tracing a picture with piping gel on parchment paper. I wasn't thrilled that it "gooed" when I pressed it onto the cake. I don't think I'll use the piping gel again in this manner. Next time I'll just try drawing my figure/character with a toothpick then filling it in.
Made this for childs first birthday. I was a nervous wreck due to my lack of practice at this decorating thing, but I think it came out pretty good.
This was my third cake. All done with buttercream. I loved the color scheme.
