Stephen King's Dark Tower
This is a cake my dad and I made together for my mom's birthday. It's based off Stephen King's Dark Tower series, which is my mom's absolute favorite series by her favorite author. This had some firsts for both of us. Our first figure modeling (and oh boy do we need practice!), our first time painting with food coloring, my first time with chocolate molds. But Mom loved it and we had fun!! Fondant turtle, bear, elephant, and wolf. Melted Jolly Ranchers for the "beams". Painted flower vase for the tower. Candy melts for the roses.

3D Cherry Cake
CSM: I made this for a friend's birthday. He LOVES cherries. This was my first carved cake. I used 3" of 8" layers sandwiched between two 2" thick 6" layers, then carved it down. Frosted in buttercream, real cherries along the bottom, wire for the stem. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it. And my friend was THRILLED! "Cake Mix Cherry Cake" recipe from this site, dark chocolate ganache filling. It was delicious too :)

Tchuss
CSM: This cake had me in tears, it would not come out the way I planned. So I did this design as a last ditch attempt at SOMETHING pretty. My second time trying cornelli lace. The word "tchuss" means "bye" in German (it's a slang term). Used pieces of a Milka Triolade bar to dress it up on the border. Honest opinions please, good and bad!

Birthday Cake With Roses
CSM: I'm ashamed to say I didn't make my own roses. I work in a grocery store bakery, and we simply don't have the time, so we order pre-made sugar roses. The rest was all me though :) The customer just said "Write 'Happy Birthday Rachel' and use any colors except brown." So I went with my personal favorite color scheme (my wedding colors :) ). The writing and border are dark purple, but you can't tell in this picture. And she was happy.

Hello Kitty
I know this is a bad picture. I didn't have the chance to take it until after I'd put it in the container. I did this one at work (grocery store bakery). Customer brought me the toys. There's a large Hello Kitty figurine that goes in the spot with the pulled up frosting (I wrote "toy here" for the customer). Green edges are airbrushed. I'm pretty proud of this one.

Easter Basket Cake
The basket is 3 layers of yellow cake (9" I believe) decorated with canned chocolate frosting. The handle is MMF wrapped around a wire coat hanger. The egg is german chocolate cake in a Wilton egg pan. It's covered in coconut MMF and decorated with MMF and canned frosting. The grass is dyed coconut. It was my first time ever with MMF and my first attempt at basket weave in several years. I was really disappointed with how it turned out. But my husband and all of the people at the party were in awe and said it was just fabulous. I think it's half me being my own worst critic, half them not knowing what a really great cake should look like. Anyway, I was inspired by mrs_planeflyer's cake from last year. I hope mine will be that good someday!! I learned a lot from this cake though. Thanks for looking and any input would be appreciated.

Easter Egg
This is the egg half of an egg-in-a-basket cake I'm doing for Easter. Covered in MMF, decorated with MMF and Pillsbury frosting. My first time working with MMF. It's harder than I expected! Also, I'm missing most of my decorating supplies. It's been a long time since I used them and I'm not sure where they ran off to. So I had to improvise. I'm not at all happy with how it turned out, but my husband thinks it's just plain amazing. He didn't even realize it was cake until I said something :)

Hsm Cake
CSM I did this cake at work. Customer had a general idea and color scheme and gave me some creative freedom. My favorite kind of customer! The cake is a pre-made, pre-iced one that we order from a company. I airbrushed it blue and the decoration is all "Betterceam". Except the black, which is gel. Around the sides are some more music notes in red. I've never taken classes. I've just taught myself over the last year by copying designs out of a book. I'm pretty proud of this one, and the customer liked it too
