It's been the Year of the Lion King at our house, so I made this cake for my daughter's fifth birthday. I used some of her LK figures for decorations. Besides the fact that Pride Rock and its surrounding environs are looking a bit muddy, due to the fact that the heavy figures had to be plunged knee-deep into the cake in order to stand straight, it was a thrill to see my daughter's reaction to this cake. Pride Rock is an 8X8 round chunked, stacked and pinned with drinking straws before frosting.
I made this gargantuan happy face cake (four recipes of sour-cream yellow cake here!) for a friend's little girl. Simple, but that was the beauty of it.
I made this for my son's 2nd birthday. He's OBSESSED with Thomas and was delighted to see this presented to him. It's a little cockeyed, but considering I decorated it an hour before the guests arrived, I'm pretty proud of it. I used a regular round cake pan for the "face" and used black licorice to do the thicker blackwork.
