Asian Wave Cake
My first wedding cake! Did this one last July and am just getting the photographer's photos back. Inspired by a cake in Martha Stewart Weddings, I believe it was a Wendy Kromer design, since most MSW cakes are. Covered in stamped fondant with fondant painted bamboo trims and silk flowers provided by the bride.
Close up of nativity figures from my Christmas cake. These were my first fondant/gumpaste figures, look forward to working with more!
O Holy Night
For my family's Christmas gathering, my first fondant characters/animals. Spent a lot of time on this one and am quite please with it, aside from some wrinkles in the fondant. All fondant and gumpaste aside from the tree which is a royal iced ice cream cone.
1/4 sheet cake for a sweet 16 party. All buttercream, tried to do the "Cakery" style, which I love. Gumpaste ribbon rose accents.
Made this for my son's 3rd birthday party. 11x15" iced in buttercream with airbrushed grass and cobblestone path. Tip 233 buttercream grass, royal icing sugar cone trees, edible image gumpaste plaques, and melted chocolate mud bath. My borders went a little wonky, but overall I'm happy with the outcome. My son loved it!
High School Musical
Disney's High School Musical themed cake for a 6 year old's birthday. Iced in buttercream with edible image and gold dragees for the lights. Thanks to all the other High School Musical cake posters for your inspirition and ideas. :)
Did this one for my cousin's college graduation. DMS is Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Done in al buttercream.
Butterfly Baby Shower
Buttercream icing with airbrushed fondant details. Still working on the airbrushing skills, not much time to practice with a 2.5 year old underfoot. Overall I think it turned out really great, and the recipient loved it.
Thanks to jcardel for the inspiration on this cake. I've had it in my favorite for a long time and finally had the chance to reproduce it. Not as good as the original, but it was fun and the mom-to-be loved it!
Check Birthday Cake
Customer's family members work at a bank. Check is an edible image with buttercream writing. Dollar signs are edible images attached to chocolate/candy clay.
Turtle cake for a co-worker's birthday. My first time working with candy clay which was really fun and easy!
This cake was designed after the bridal shower invitation (photo posted). I piped the yellow design right on top of the pink, laid a viva towel over top and lightly rolled my foam roller over the top to get it all flat and even. The dress is MMF, and the top is lightly brushed with corn syrup and then covered in cake sparkles. The hanger is MMF painted with NuSilver luster dust.
Buzz Lightyear Birthday
Buzz Lightyear FBCT for my son's second birthday. He was so excited, he's on a Toy Story kick! ;)
My first cake of large size. I did this for my grandparent's 50th wedding anniversary. The tiers are 6, 8, 10, and 14" with the the 8 and 14 being single layers and the 6 and 10 being double. My first time using luster dust, which was really fun! The dots were supposed to be dragees but the ones I ordered looked far too yellow next to the scrolls, so I painted royal dots with luster dust. I was really happy with the outcome and my grandparents loved it!
Side view of my first attempt at mendhi. Need some work, but it was fun and I learned a lot!
Mendhi 1St Attempt
My first try at a mendhi cake. Mary on Ace of Cakes definatly makes it look easy! This is the top of the cake. I wasn't all the impressed with my first effort, but I was pressed for time and using too large a tip on too small of a cake. I will try again and take my time!
Welcome Home 101St
My first FBCT, a cake I made for my cousin who just came home from his second tour in Iraq with the 101st airborne division. I love this technique and can't wait to try it again! Didn't expect it to be so thick, but now I know how to fix it for next time. Thanks for looking, and please support our troops!
Prescription For Love
Here is a close-up of the prescription that goes with the medicine bottle cake.
Anniversary Medicine Bottle
My first 3d cake. I did this medicine bottle for a coworker's 3rd anniversary with his girlfriend who is in pharmacy school. Kind of corny, but it was fun! Learned a lot on this one, not my best effort, but I was pleased.
Course 3 Final Cake
Here's my final cake for Wilton Course 3. It is a marble cake covered in MMF with satin ribbon and royal icing petunias. I wasn't thrilled with the fondant, I had problems with lumps in it because I kneaded a new batch into a previous batch I had made that ended up having dry spots in it. Oh well, live and learn! Other than that, I was pretty happy with the outcome. :)
Just wanted to practice my buttercream flowers and cornelli lace, plus make something for new neighbors.
My First Cake
This was the first cake I ever made. I did it after my first Course I class, so no hands on experience as of this point. It's fun to see how far I've come in just a few months. I'm happy to be developing my abilities every day! All buttercream with silk flowers I arranged myself. :)
