Sea Monster
I actually did this cake for a baby shower. The sea monster is all cake, with a pvc pipe going through the head piece, and a small wooden platform attached to the top of the pvc pipe. I used loaf pans to bake the cake, and the largest Ateco circle cutter for the bottom of the head, hump pieces, and tail. The head is made with a cake baked in a mini loaf pan. A triangle piece of cake filled in the gap between the neck and head. For the hump I put a narrow piece of cardboard across the two circle pieces.

Magic Cake
Here is yet another magic cake. This time the Mom didn't want the "table" decorated like a magic black art table. Cake is 2 -1/4 sheet cakes stacked and covered in buttercream. Hat is 2 - 4" rounds stacked, and bunny is 2 cupcakes carved. Wand, brim of hat, and bunny ears are gumpaste. Letters and stars are fondant.

Unicorn
I made this cake for my daughter's 5th birthday. I was inspired by a cake on Flickr.com. Bottom is 10" round and top is 6" round. Iced in buttercream with fondant flowers and fondant/gumpaste (50/50) sclupted unicorn. I was going to put a big "5" on the side of the top tier, but ran out of time.

Surprise Elmo
Bottom cake is 11" square and top is 8" square. Elmo is made out of rice krispy treats. I drew on the cakes with Wilton edible writers. I had some trouble with the green marker getting stuck and making dark spots. That is because I didn't let the fondant dry before writing on it. Lesson learned.
