My niece saw a picture of a cake in a magazine and decided months before her birthday that it was what she wanted. The fish are Starburst candies - microwaved for just 1-2 seconds at a time, then formed into the fish. They didn't harden very much, so I had to prop them up with toothpicks to stay upright. Rest of the cake is just store-bought in tubs.
One of my first 3-D cakes. The blocks spelled out "BABY ALYSSA" for my soon-to-be niece. All store-bought frosting (in the little tubs). The blocks were a complete pain in the butt to cover in stars like that! If I'd only known about fondant back then!!! (she's 5 yrs old now!)
Here's my first attempt at the belly cake. Thank you EVERYONE who posted their belly cakes! My cousin absolutely LOVED it! Cherry chip cake with BC frosting except for the dress, heart & flowers. 12" round with BC torte, belly is 1/2 sports ball pan, and top are cupcakes trimmed down a little.
Half of the 3-D ducky pan on a round layer. All buttercream.
Buttercream icing, fondant ruler. Hill was made from the soccer ball pan.
