Jmu Graduation
Yay Class of 2006! I made this for a friend and me in May for our graduation from James Madison University! The hat is a cupcake and a cardboard square covered in black cloth. The tassel is made out of buttercream (I LOVE butter cream!). It was french vanilla made with apple sauce instead of oil. I think it makes the cakes so much more moist.

Oh Boy
Thanks to all of you who let me model this cake after your own! I'm very new at this whole cake thing and need lots of advice! My mom suggested a basket weave around the sides of the cake and I thought it tied the whole thing together very well. This was for a coworker. Everything is butter cream except for the clothing (fondent). Thanks to my mom who noticed that the amount of frosting I had on hand wouldn't cover a 6 inch round and promptly made some more. Moms rock!

Off To Greener Pastures
I started my summer job at my county's Dept. of Public Works office 3 weeks ago. My new boss decided that he was going to move to the Board of Ed. so we gave him a going away party. When he worked for the DPW he designed a program to create "green roofs," gravelbeds and plants growing on tops of buildings, throughout the county. So this was his going away cake -- green roof style. For some reason my blue frosting never keeps its color well. Does anyone know why?
