A request from a customer for her young daughter's birthday!
A 12", 10", 8" and a 6"; all different flavours. The bride provided the artificial flowers, and the initials. I made the "&" with clay and rhinestones. Pretty simple cake to do but I thought it ended up looking pretty elegant.
Entire cake done with buttercream & fondant, including the figurine.
Fondant guitar and amp on a 9" round. The stupid guitar cracked as I was placing it on the cake, so I had to do a 'cover-up job' using the cord for the amp!!.....Man, was I ever ticked! Happy with how it turned out though.
I would've loved tdo do something completely different with this cake for a man who loves surfing and golf (like, REALLY...how impossible is it to make a '5' and a '0' look like a golf course!?).....but the customer had VERY speceific instructions after seeing my other 50th sheet cake. It's one of those cakes that I knew would be ugly, no matter what I did to it!!...She was very happy with it so I guess that's all that matters, right!?!
The Batman bust is out of rice krispies, covered in fondant, the little beacons are also fondant, everything else buttercream frosted. I used the Melvira smoothing method with the roller for the sheet cake.
Inspired by amberhoney's fish cake & also one of Collette's. Gumpaste fish, rod & reeds, fondant rocks. The fish had to be a sturgeon (which aren't the cutest looking fish in the world). Next time I would use a dowel in the tail section for stability, it kept wanting to fall off the side of the cake!
Ariel is looking a little more 'drag-queenish' than I had hoped, but I'm still happy with how the cake turned out! Gumpaste Ariel, and fondant seashells. Ariel took FOREVER to do.
This cake just about drove me right off the deep end!...I don't think I'll ever attempt blocks again. They are cakes covered in fondant, with royal and BC accents. I sure hope those damned blocks stayed on there during the 2 hour transport from my house!!....because they took two attempts & about 3 hours of work. I don't know how you guys make those beautiful block cakes without losing your minds first!!...Never again!
Lightning McQueen & Tow Mater sculpted cakes, covered in MMF on top of a 9" round covered in BC...... Fondant rocks. I'm happy with it how it turned out but my MMF keeps getting droopy after refrigeration which is frustrating, so I've been limited on what I can fill these types of cakes with.
Thanks to Daisy1's Snowflake Wedding Cake, I was inspired to attempt the royal icing snowflakes. I think it turned out pretty good for my first attempt....they sure are delicate though!...about half broke as I was putting them onto the cake.
MMF covered cakes and gumpaste roses. I would have done the scrolls in white, but the bride & groom wanted purple. My first time covering with MMF...it took a bit to get used to it!!
Frosted in buttercream with fondant sculpture....I couldn't resist doing a sleeping baby cake after all of the fabulous ones I've seen here on CC! Thanks for the inspiration, all of you fondant-baby-makers!!
Thanks to Daisy1's 'Leaf Cake', I was inspired to do an autumn cake. I brought it to a friend's for Thanksgiving on the weekend (our Thanksgiving is earlier in Canada). The leaves and roses are fondant, painted with luster dust & Wilton gels.
I was asked to do a 50th birthday cake with these instructions: A cake in the shape of the 50th, with writing on it, with a custard filling for a classy, elegant woman who loves gardening....this is the best I could do! This cake was a nightmare from start to finish....the 50th is made from cake,....it fell apart when I placed it on the sheet cake, the board cracked in half after I placed the cake into the box, smooshing the five & the zero into eachother!! I'm surprised the cake looks decent after it all!
Buttercream frosted with fondant accents, for a bridal shower. I put the abstract lily-thing on the top after my other fondant topper just didn't look right! I think it works though.....
I used the fish pan for this one, all frosted in buttercream. I also did a little painting with luster dust & vanilla. It didn't turn out exactly how I had pictured it, it needs more color or something.....oh well, next time!

Baby boy shower cake. Frosted in buttercream with fondant cutouts on the sides. Fondant bear, blanket & blocks. The new mommy refused to cut the cake!!

Cake for a celebration in our city, our town has a sister city in Japan & it was the 10th anniversary of the partnership. Fondant emblem, flags, cherry blossoms and branches , 16", 12" and 8" frosted in gold buttercream. (Imagined more of a real gold color of icing in my mind! I guess they meant 'gold-yellow' on the container.
This is my second attempt at a 'Thomas' cake. Buttercream icing, fondant face and wheels. I used the 3D train pan.
