Bassoon Cake
My first fondant cake ever. This was for my boyfriend's birthday. He's played the bassoon for over 10 years. It was 42 inches long (20% smaller than life-size). Used "Durable Cake for 3-D..." recipe w/ DH Dark Chocolate Fudge mix. Baked in 12x18 sheet cake pan, cut, and carved. Iced with Chocolate Syrup Frosting w/ McCormick Raspberry extract added. Covered in Satin Ice chocolate fondant; Nu Silver and Super Pearl luster dusts were mixed with vodka and painted on sculpted fondant pieces.

Mortarboard Graduation Cake
I made this cake for my mom's college graduation. I baked the base of the mortarboard in a glass bowl and then set it on top of a two layer 9-inch cake. The top is a large icing-covered sugar cookie that is supported by a sheet of cardboard. I made the tassel by covering a wooden skewer with icing. I used blue icing because that was one of her school colors. I enjoyed making this for my mom because I was so proud of her!

Ohio State University Stadium Cake
I made this cake for my brother's 17th birthday. I used the new stadium pan from Nordicware, and then carved the cake to make the famous "Horseshoe" shape. I used the "Durable Cake for 3D and Wedding Cakes" recipe with chocolate cake mix. I frosted it with store-bought Wilton Decorator icing that I tinted gray, dark gray, and red. The scoreboard and field were made by my sister on the computer. To give you some idea of the scale, the "crowd" was made using Wilton colored non-pareils.
