Chocolate Overload
DH wanted me to make a cake for his company picnic's baking contest and this was my en try. Even though it practically melted in the heat it took 3rd place. Dark chocolate cake (4 layers) with whipped ganache filling, iced with ganache and topped with dark chocolate shavings and chopped almonds.

First Wedding Cake
I couldn't sleep the week before this cake was due and I was SO glad when I delivered it! Whew! I had learned a lot, though, and won't make the same mistakes next time. I only charged the couple my cost to make it - something else I'll never do! Each tier is a different flavor, filled and iced with WCBC and MMF. Based on a cake the bride liked from the internet.

March Of Dimes Walk
I made this for a friend who is doing the March of Dimes Walk today with other friends to honor their preemies. I'm not totally thrilled with it, mostly b/c I had some architectural problems with the top layer so I'm not too fond of sheet cakes right now! LOL White and chocolate layers with cocoa buttercream filling. March of Dimes logo on the top.

Soccer Cake
I made this for my daughter's soccer team's party. I used a blue icing to match their team colors and was really happy with the way the ball turned out. I wish I had spaced the top words a little farther apart so it didn't look like it said, "Waytogo" but what can you do? LOL The parents liked it and the kids loved eating their names! I used stars for the top border and grass on the bottom. I got lots of compliments despite the cracked icing - those darned flimsy boards! Live and learn! :)

Preemie Cake
I made this for a friend who was taking it to a picnic for the "Moms of Preemies" group of which she's a member. She requested whipped cream icing, strawberry filling and white cake but I wish she had told me the whole event would be outside! It was in the upper 80s and humid today! Thank goodness I used Wilton's Whipped Cream BC and not the real thing! She told me that just walking from the car to the pavilion made the whole thing shift. Ugh! I'm glad I didn't have to see that! lol

My First Cake!
I went to my first Wilton class this week and decided to go ahead and make a cake! It's not perfect but I'm pretty happy with it. I wish I had positioned the butterflies differently, but live and learn! I used Viva and a hot spatula to smooth the BC and used a small star tip to fill in the butterflies and to do the stars at the bottom.
