Birthday 2010
I wanted to make my birthday cake look like a large Hubig's pie. So, I did. It was French vanilla cake w/a chocolate pie filling. In the interest of time, I omitted the long ingredients listing, the mail order info and the microwave directions - but I think it's still pretty recognizable to anyone in the know about Hubig's. :)

Marie Laveau's Tomb - My Birthday Cake
The cake I made for my birthday. I'm a love New Orleans and wanted to finally make my own b'day cake. Fondant (SI) w/ RI 'plaster'. I had my guests make wishes and make the XXX marks - that way everyone got to make a wish not just me. (if you go to New Orleans and see the tomb, pls do not mark on it)

Cow Cake
I had a short window to make a cake for Mom's coworker leaving the office to go live a slower-paced life on a farm w/his wife and cattle - hence the cow eating a tie. Thanks to Mommykicksbutt, I used her inspiration cow cake and tweaked a little to make it my own. Fondant over homemade buttercream.

"kitteh Gonna Get Ya!"
My first competition cake for the 2008 Austin "That Takes The Cake" Competition. Entered in the Adult Beginner "Sculpted" category. All fondant on golden vanilla cake w/buttercream crumbcoat. Eyes inlaid to black fondant w/some holographic sparkle for highlight. I was pleased w/it, it was honest, clean and true to skill level entered.

Marauding_Meaghen_Pirate_Hideo.jpg
I made this for a girl's 9th birthday, who loves New Orleans & pirates, what better than to make Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop?' but I was a bit over-zealous in cutting the first angle - hence the namechange! :) It was my first full fondant and sculpted cake. Each shingle is hand cut, frilled and placed! I entwined the fondants to get a woodgrain for the visible 'structure'. I 'girled' it up w/the addition of the rose vine. :) She LOVED it!
