Skylander Portal Cake
This was a very quickly done cake- as you can tell by the messy piping & frosting sploches on the cake board. The "stone" walls of the portal are store-bough chocolate covered graham crakers and fudge sticks that were covered in gray frosting. I used a toothpick to quickly draw individual stones in the frosting.

Butterfly, Bee & Ladybug Cupcakes
More cupcakes I did for a friend's son's bug party. There are butterflies made with sour gummy worm body, white chocolate-covered mini pretzel wings and an m&m head. Bees were yellow lemon slices with frosting stripes. I cug large marshmallows in quarters for the wings and used malted milk balls for the heads. I also used those for the heads on the ladybugs as well. The lady bug bodies consist of half an oreo with 2 halved cherry slices on top for the wings. I used mini chocolate chip for the spots (but some were stolen off as you can see in the pic! LOL)

Ant, Caterpillar & Dragonfly Cupcakes
Cupcakes for a bug-themed party. The ants are made from black or dark purple jelly beans & frosting legs. The caterpillars are fruit loop-style cereal stacked on their sides for the body and a chocolate easter candy head. The dragonflies have sour gummy worms for the body and wings made of Airhead Xtremes Sour belts cut into oval-ish shapes. A jellybean head finished them off.

R2D2 Cake
Made for my middle son's 9th birthday- R2D2 is the tallest cake I've made so far! He was a big challenge for me, but luckily there was a lot of inspiration cakes and helpful instructions/details to be found. His body is made of 2 layers of double stacked 8 inch cakes. I used dowels to help support it all. His head is RKT shaped in a bowl. I used fondant (for the first time- homemade marshmallow fondant too!) to cover his head and make the blue details on his body. His legs are also RKT that I tried covering in white chocolate (it didn't go as smoothly as I anticipated.) I added a frosting covered marshmallow for the "lens" (for lack of proper term) on his head, held on by a toothpick. and red licorice strings attached from his body to his legs.

Turtle With A Baby Turtle
Another cake for my youngest son's 6th birthday- A turtle with a baby turtle. This one was another quick thrown together one- had a extra round cake, so I turned it into my son's second favorite sea animal. I wish I would of had more time & thought to put into it, but he was happy and that's all that counts! Daddy turtle's body (my boy was very insistant that it was a "Daddy" turtle, not a momma turtle! LOL) is a single 8 inch round. His legs/flippers are cupcakes cut in half. In retrospect I wish I would of shaped them a little more- but I was in a rush. His head is another cupcake. My boy also wanted a baby turtle- so I transformed an upside down cupcake into his body with a mini cupcake for his head. I cut marshmallow flippers and dipped them in green frosting for his flippers.

Spotted Stingray Cake
Stingray cake made for my youngest son's 6th birthday- brown with green spots per his request. It took me a while to figure out how I was going to do it- there wasn't too many inspiration photos to look at this time around! Body is a single 8 inch round cake. Wings, "nose" & part of the tail are Little Debbie-style brownies. I cut, stacked, arranged &/or smooshed them into the final shapes I needed. All covered in chocolate frosting and half the tail is simple piped frosting as well. Eyes are made from cut marshmallows & frosting.

Joker Face Cake
This was a very quick cake I tossed together for my eldest son's 12th birthday. I had to get creative in the middle of decorating it when I realized I was out of black food paste and the party started in 20 minutes. I ended up using a pair of tweezers to apply chocolate sprinkles individually for the black area around his eyes. The result wasn't too terrible and I learned a valuable lesson- always check my supplies ahead of time!

Monkey Cake
My very first "special" cake. It didn't quite turned out like the picture in the magazine, but it was enough to start to get me hooked. A frosted bundt cake was decorated with green leaves (made from green slices- I don't know the proper name for them sorry!) and banana Runts. I made the monkeys by piping melted chocolate onto waxed paper and then added them to the cake.

Shovel & Pail
I know- a cake decorated in pan. One of my very first that got decorated with more than just frosting & sprinkles. Graham crackers cut into a pail & shovel shape were then frosted. The shovel got red sugar sprinkles. Pez candy made the pail handle. Crushed vanilla wafer cookies made the sand.

Treasure Chest Cake
A simple 9x13 made this cake. Fruit Roll-up made the "straps" with mini M&M's. Assorted treasure is spilling out- candy necklaces, Ring Pops, gold coins, gold bars & nuggets. If you look closely in the front you can see where the youngest pirate of our family couldn't keep his hands off the booty. LOL

Mater Cake From The Cars Movie
My middle son was a big Cars movie fanatic around his 7th birthday. So Mater was his request for his cake. I made his body from regular loaf pans. The sides of his front end (where his hood was) was swiss cake rolls. He had chocolate donut wheels, M&M lights, taillights & eyes and wafer side mirrors held on by toothpicks. Kit Kats were used for the rear bumper & the "engine", with an upside-down Reese's on top. The tow bar was Kit Kats with a Rolo & Skittle and his teeth were flattened mini marshmallows.

Puppy Cake
Camping over my youngest birthday meant I didn't have much time when we got home to bake & decorate a cake. So, a simple two layer cake was made to look like a puppy. I used cupcakes for his paws, fruit roll-up for his collar, Necco wafers for his tag, eyes & tounge and blue M&M's for his eyes.

Bowling Lane
Our family being avid bowlers- I wasn't surprised to get a request from my oldest for a bowling cake. I made him his own bowling lane out of two 9x13 cakes. The wood lane is "planks" of graham cracker sticks. It's complete with twizzler gutters, gum bowling balls, mini chocolate chip "markers" and candle pins.

Dragon Cake
This is a cake made for my middle son. Round cakes cut into specific shapes make up his body, tail, head, legs & neck. Cupcakes were added for the eyes and feet. I tried dappling the frosting to make it look like scales (hard to tell in the picture.) Final details were jellybean toenails, m&m eyes, hershey kiss scales and fruit roll-up wings & fire.

Nintendo Cake
This was a cake I did for my husband's surprise party. Because it was a surprise- I didn't have the time to work on it like I normally would- it was decorated quickly right before the party. The controller is a frosted Rice Krispy treat and candy decorations. The cupcakes are "1-Up Mushrooms."
