I made this for my friend Jaymie at work after being inspired by indydebi's cute cake. 9" Buttermilk cake with buttercream.
Made for my daughter's shower. It was very warm, a California heat wave, and my buttercream was melting. The faces are petit fours. I made a plate of petit fours to serve with each piece of cake.
Made for my daughter's baby shower. I made petit fours for the faces. It was 90 degrees at midnight in the house while I was icing and the petals and basketweave drooped a bit (and me too). I made a plate of petit fours faces to serve along side of each piece of cake. Everyone ooh'd and ahh'd, even though I know it was far from perfect. Let me know if you have a heat resistant icing for California.
