Horton Hears A Who
It has been soooo long since I've posted anything ...just thought I'd share this photo of a cake I did not long ago. I made it during a segment of a local TV show to demonstrate cake carving & fondant work. I plan on posting some other cake photos soon. Sorry I've been absent for the past several months...I've been surrounded by cake!!!!

Mayberry Birthday
THIS IS YET ANOTHER "LARGE HEADED" PERSON POPPING OUT OF YET ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS TIME THE BIRTHDAY GIRL IS DRIVING A SQUAD CAR DOWN THE STREETS OF MAYBERRY, NC. ( ALSO BEING CHASED BY HER DOG ) I USED GREYTONES ONLY TO GIVE THE LOOK OF THE EARLY BLACK & WHITE "ANDY GRIFFITH" SERIES.

"life In The Not-So-Fast Lane"
This was for a friend's 40th birthday. He owns a classic 1964 VW Bug that he takes to regional car shows. The car is iced in buttercream. The caricature "Head" is made of maccaroons covered in fondant. The sign posts are metal curtain rods. The signs were created & printed using my computer. The roadway sign reads: "WELCOME TO LIFE IN THE NOT-SO-FAST LANE".

"lucy" Themed Birthday Cake
I molded & painted fondant into a "caricature likeness" of the birthday girl. She is a huge "I Love Lucy" fan, so I thought it would be fun to depict her as "Lucy" in the "Vitameatavegamin" episode. The "Head", Bottle, and her two Dogs are 3-D. I covered two dowels with foil for the "rabbit ears" on top.

"cake Dive" Cake For Bridal Show
Cake made for a Bridal Show "Cake Dive" event. Styrofoam bottom layers, iced in buttercream. Iced Angel Food cake for top layer as well as "ruffles" on botom layer. Topped with "CAKEMAN!" cutout. Small "engagement rings" were placed throughout the real cake portions. Four Brides in painter's jumpsuits "dove in" (outside) and retreived four rings with different colored "gems" representing a specific prize.

Youth On Thin Ice
This was made for a suprise "un-birthday" for two ladies that would be turning 50 in December. They both do syncronized skating & the husbands wanted to suprise them in June with an "un-birthday" / "Over The Hill" themed party. The ice edges are made from fondant & the legs and arms are also shaped from fondant formed over "lollypop" sticks.

"fruitcake!?!"
Fondant covered cakes. Marzipan vines & leaves. Each fruit was hand made from coconut macaroons covered with a thin "skin" of marzipan. Painted each pear & orange with thinned out paste colors. Topped with a whole clove "stem". The design was based on a cake of Gady's as featured in the JC Penney's recent bridal campaign. The reception site was decorated with real pears & oranges, so it all tied in nicely to the whole theme.
