Buttercream volcano. Airbrushed colors on white buttercream. oreo cookie crumbs spread around. red gel for lava. the dinosaurs are plastic toys. Our son is 2 and we figured he would want to play with them.
This mini-tiered cake is covered with white fondant, then airbrushed purple. We also airbrushed a mix of lemon extract and luster dust over the whole cake for a shimmering effect. The flowers and butterflies are gumpaste. The butterfllies are hand-painted with food coloring/luster dust. I have to share credit with my husband on this cake. He is rockstarcakes on here...he is amazing. :)
My husband (he's RockStarCakes on here) and I made this cake together. It is covered in white fondant. We made the flowers from gumpaste and the vines are just piped with royal icing.

I entered this in the Mid-Atlantic cake show. I didn't place, but what a cool experience! I'll be back to it next year!
I made this for my husband's birthday. Our poodle's name is "Buttercream", so I thought it would be funny to "frost" the cake with the dog hehe. We dream of opening a bakery someday that we want to call "Rock Star Cakes", so thats why the gumpaste "order form" has that name :) The poodle, box etc. are made with gumpaste. He really liked it...which made me feel really good because he is a MUCH better cake decorator than I am. Check out his Pirates of the Caribbean sculpted skull on here...you'll see :)
