First Tiered Cake
A friend of mine was having a faaaabulous birthday party and I told him I would do the cake. AFTER I told him I would do the cake, I found out there were going to be about 100 guests! All in all, not bad considering: (1)this is my first stacked cake (2) I used broken chopsticks instead of dowels and (3) the entire thing cost me less than $60. My MMF is a little rumpled, but I was rushing toward the end. The inside of the top tier is rainbow cake, middle tier is sky-blue and white checkerboard cake and bottom is chocolate. MMF with MMF bumblebees and sugar cookie unicorns. FYI: DO NOT TRY AND MAKE UNICORN COOKIES UNLESS YOU HAVE A UNICORN COOKIE CUTTER. That's probably the part that took me the longest!

Little Einsteins Cake
I actually made this a couple of years ago and it was a NIGHTMARE. I hadn't used wafer paper before and had made these super-cute edible wafer-paper characters and put them on top of the blue frosting....the edible markers I had used wept (?) all over the cake and I had to redo the entire thing at the last minute. Lesson learned. Don't try new techniques on time-sensitive cakes!

Mom's Birthday Cake
I wasn't absolutely thrilled with this one, but I guess it turned out okay for a kinda quickie. It's a 6" round covered in red MMF with a peach MMF plaque on top, decorated in bc. This was the first time I tried coloring the marshmallows while they were melted before I added the PS to the MMF and it worked amazingly well with WAYY less food coloring than usual.

George's Cake
I was making a 6" for my MIL (the pink cornelli one) on her birthday, when I found out my very hungry BIL was going to be there too! Instead of letting him go hungry or making a larger cake, I made a joke out of it and made him his own simple little 6", He was very excited and everyone had a good laugh!

Zanzibar Cake
This cake was for a baby shower where the theme was "Zanzibar" (not the place- the cute jungle animal collection for babies). They sent me a really cute photo of a cake similar to this one to go by, so I am indebted to the mystery decorator who made the original that I was inspired by. This cake is crusting cream cheese icing with MMF accents and I used the Americolor food coloring markers to do the black detail/outlines on the animals.

Real Elvis
This is the final cake I made for my MIL's work. It did not come out as planned, as I complained about in the "Cake Disasters" forum. This was the THIRD FBCT I did for this cake, and it STILL didn't come out as well as my practice one did. Oh well. MIL was very nice about it and said everyone loved it and thought it was really cute. The worst part was that it would have only taken me about two hours total if I had just been more patient from the beginning. I've learned now that you can't rush a cake.

Pirate Ship Cake
This was my first commissioned cake and boy did I learn a lot! I work MUCH BETTER when I'm NOT UNDER STRESS! I kept freaking out and messing up and the whole cake felt like an utter disaster. A cake that should have taken me two hours to decorate ended up taking closer to eight and by the end all I could see was mistakes! The flag was the part I kept messing up on, and I kept having to make new sails!

Dragon Cake
I made this for my husband's birthday. This was the first time I've attempted a carved cake. It was actually much easier than I anticipated it to be, but it was pretty time consuming. The scales are rolled buttercream, the horns, eyes, spieks, etc. are mmf. The scales took about 2 hours to cut out and apply! It was fun, but it was a little sad seeing him all cut up...kind of like seeing a stuffed animal mutilated! Still, he was delicious!

Pennzoil Cake
I made this cake for my dad, at his request. I don't really know why he requested it, but I was fairly pleased with the results. It is covered in MMF and the texture came out really weird. I managed to "spackle" some of the problem areas by heating the MMF until it melted and then using a small spatula to patch.

Immaculate Confection
This is a frozen buttercream transfer on red velvet (what else?) that I did for my mom's birthday. I'm kind of new to cake decorating, and I just discovered transfers. I had been making theme cakes for everyone's birthday this year based on what they were "into." It was my mom's suggestion to do Jesus.
