Mother's Day
This was a quick cake for Mother's Day dessert with friends. Yellow cake, lemon curd filling, and buttercream. Although I was skeptical about learning royal icing, I've really enjoyed the detailed flowers I've been able to make and that the leftovers keep indefinitely. These were left from previous cakes and all I had to do was pop them on and add leaves. :)

Girl Scout Bronze Award
Bronze award is copper-colored fondant painted with bronze pearl dust/vanilla mixture. Royal icing daisies in honor of Girl Scouting founder Juliette "Daisy" Low. I had a more formal design in mind, but the leader asked if I could incorporate a rainbow. I think the end result is more suited to young girls' taste and they loved it.

Wwi Flying Ace
Here is Snoopy as the WWI Flying Ace! I baked the cake in loaf pans to get the right shape, then added cupcake "clouds." The roof is cereal treats. Snoopy and the banner are fondant. I also used one of my new favorite items, a food coloring felt tip pen. Perfect for the "Snoopy" sign, banner, and bullet holes. : )

Cinderella's Castle
My daughter wanted a "castle cake," and this is what I came up with. The concept/colors coordinate with the Disney princess party ware. I used wrapping paper rolls and ice cream cones covered in fondant for the towers, rice treats for the stairs, and royal icing flowers. The figures are a play set that the birthday girl got to keep.

Star Wars - Episode Iv
This was a combination of ideas from other CC cakes - Thanks! I layered black and blue color spray to mimic an airbrushed look. It was my son's 6th birthday, so I made a Roman Numeral 6 behind the fondant cut-out logo, as it looks on the DVD case. I ordered the topper and the rings on the cupcakes online. Very simple techniques. The only difficult part was cutting out the logo.

Dinosaurs!
The volcano is a waffle cone, end broken off, and covered in peanut butter candy melts. In hindsight, it looked better without the BC lava - I just couldn't get it to flow right. The trees are pretzels and I also used chocolate rock candies for accents. The figurines on both the cake and cupcakes were ordered very inexpensively from Oriental Trading.

Confirmation Cake
This was my first sheet cake for a church reception. It's 2 9x13's iced side by side. I've since learned to level them better. : ) The design is an approximation of another CC cake -Thanks! I've since learned the gel transfer method, which would have made this a lot easier and neater.
