Pmsl  This really reminds me of my mum bless her, she uses alternatives - on purpose mind - when she's run out of things, and her feeling is if it looks the same it won't be noticed. Cream Cheese on a trifle when you've run out of double cream anyone? No? How about courgette instead of cucumber in a salad?

Cream cheese on a trifle sounds like she's invented some kind of crossbreed - cheesecake trifle! Your wedding photos are amazing, Lizzy! Amazing location and love what you did with the flowers on your cake, such an unusual design that works so well.

Chezzabelle - hope the pain eases soon and you get waited on in the meantime. My sister-in-law had a gallbladder removed a couple of years ago and I think she was glad to see the end of it.

Finished covering my xmas cakes yesterday. Just need to decorate next week and they're done. I just hope the idea I have in my head for decoration works just as well in real life.

AAfternoon!

Ugh I hate shopping! Well, with a dodgy back at least. Had to nip into Superdrug & buy one of those stick on heat patches to keep me going. At least I've made a start though I suppose!

Sequin update: the gelatin ones have now fully dried. And are rock hard, like teeny tiny sparkly ruby gravel :/ No way I can out them on a cake for people to eat. Pants, because they look fab. Def going to have to experiment with actual jelly, otherwise it's going to be a gazillion cut out SP dots sprayed red.........my fingers ache already just thinking about it! Grrr.....

Chezzabelle, glad the op is all done. My DH had his gallbladder out a couple of years ago, he was getting horrid attacks regularly, so I know what you mean! But since the op he's been great, very occassional indigestion if he's had a naughty day, but no attacks at all. They gave him cocodamol for the after op pain relief and they zonked him right out, so can reccomend those LOL!

Lizzy, aw lovely pics! That cake is glowing it's so white LOL! Love the card too, bless her! :-D Your cake is gorgeous though, love the lilies and hearts! Wow to your 'venue' too, stunning! We did the Grand Canyon (south rim, not the main touristy bit) and that was jaw dropping, it's like another world out there isn't it?!

ROFL to a bisto cake, and cheesrifle! And courgettes look exactly like cucumbers......

Need to head to shops in a bit, but really have no energy. Maybe a cuppa before I go is needed......!

AOf course your cakes will come out as you want them to Cheryl, why wouldn't they?!

You're doing a meercat nanny? How did I miss that? Is it a carved cake or a topper?

Cheesrifle makes it sound lovely Mel :-D Trust me, it wasn't! It was everyone's faces as we realised that the lovely looking trifle tasted like feet that was the best bit though :-D

What a shame the sequins dried hard, I wouldn't have expected that. Really interested to hear if they work out with jelly!

I loved the Grand Canyon too, it's just amazing isn't it? We did the pontoon ride on the river at the bottom and it was so peaceful and stunning. Did you find it a bit scary that there is nothing to stop you pitching off the edge at the top of you are that way inclined? We did Vegas as we had to cancel our wedding (with everything booked) over here 4 times cos of my health, so we decided about 6 weeks before the day that we were just going out there. I didn't have enough time to get unwell, it was cheaper than doing it here and it was awesome :-D

It is terrific.  Take a photo of the finished cake!

I am new the the blog, but have done cakes and decorating for a long time.  Never too old to learn, I say... Due to a long and serious illness I had to retire from my Bakery Cafe and now just have been able (after almost a year) to bake again.  Have really missed it!  Had multiple surgeries on my rt hand and left shoulder.  Not fun be in a cast then a imobilizer sling for so long....

My name is Trudy and I live in Omaha NE in the States.

Look forward to getting to know you all.

One of my students is studying in London and another in France, both at the Cordon Bleu schools.

AHi all.

Welcome Trudy!

I've had a go with it airbrush. I'm going to practice some more but I'm not sure I have the confidence to spray a whole cake nwith it that's due Friday next week. Maybe I'll just spray for shadow effects. I didn't know you could write with it and do fine line work so that's a bonus!

AYes Jean, I had a go at the cake international,I didn't find it easy if honest, bit nervous of it. I don't have the confidence yet either to spray a whole cake, I just play about with bits and bobs.

Quick update.

My Plan A for the cake looked worse than a dog's dinner!!!  Plan B isn't what I wanted to do, but I'm SO pleased with it.

So now I have to cover the top tier - a 4" cube.  Why do I know that will be a real PITA?  Tomorrow I'll make the model that's to be bursting out the top of it....

Quick question.  You know the cakes where it looks like a packet of sweets (eg Maltesers) is suspended in mid-air and the sweets are pouring onto the cake below?  Is it just a case of sticking a dowel in the cake, securing the packet to the dowel and then sticking sweets on the dowel to hide it?

It's my son's 13th birthday on Saturday and he's having 4 or 5 friends back after school tomorrow.  So I thought I might bung a cake in the oven tonight and throw something on it tomorrow...  I've got chocolate cigarellos, so thought I could put those around the side and then do Maltesers or Smarties pouring onto the cake.  He LOVES Smarties...  will it work with the cardboard tube?  Not seen a bag of them around lately!

Thanks

AOoh nanny I could eat a big slice of that cake. I'm feeling sorry for myself because I have really bad tooth ache which is giving me a banging headache and earache too.

Suzanne I just used a bubble straw for the centre of mine and stuck the areo balls round it with melted chocolate...

Cheryl hope you're feeling better soon. I know I shouldn't be moaning about toothache, I'm sure you're much more uncomfortable than me.

Welcome Trudy.

I used stiffish ganache on my dowel Suzanne, no setting time needed! Also, I started off with cling film over the dowel for hygiene. It does not work, the dowel needed to be plain!

Morning all - been busy.....working!  Cheek! :-D  Busy time of year for me here - organising the dinner and dance and getting people's dietaries sorted - I never knew you could be allergic to apple!  Lizzy absolutely stunning wedding location and what a fab wedding cake.  Mel - I've changed my mind - you should so do your cake it will be wonderful.

Suzanne - glad you got your dress (we will want pictures you know - it's the rule!)  I can't believe you have had problems with your cake - but you are a perfectionist so you are probably your harshest critic (as we all are to our own cakes I think).  Your boy will love a gravity cake - I would love to do one of those too but I am so disorganised at the moment - still got tons of stuff to do before the Christmas break and none of them cake related.

Nicola - I sympathise - I have a double dental appointment tomorrow

Yes, sorry forgot to say - welcome Trudy.

Have a great day everyone

Kathy

AHelp! Was it Jean who had the quick drying tip? Was it 70 for 1/2 hour? Can anyone remember? Dammit, two cakes to do for tonight and they're both uncovered (one isn't even filled!). I've got so many things flying round in my brain that nothing is getting done including cakes. I know I have to eat the elephant one bite at a time but I don't know where to start chomping! Argh!
