That might sound odd because I've got Leah but I don't notice it as much with her, she's mine, she's with me all the time, her disability is just normal life for us. AAw thankyou nanny. X

Would you believe I haven't got a radio?! I gave mine to my auntie, she had new hearing aids and wasn't getting on with them very well. The hearing man said it might be because her sight's deteriorated so much recently so she can't lip read to help her hear. He suggested she listen to the radio for a couple of hours each day to train her brain. So bye bye Maisie's radio! I miss it too, can't clean properly without a radio! Good luck to Sarah for tomorrow. :-) Caerphilly castle is beautiful isn't it, I've waited on there at some lovely weddings. Can't wait to see the cake, it's gona be fab.

My cake is out and looks delicious, I made a mini one which I've just demolished, erm, I mean, umm, oh yeah, which I've just tasted for research purposes so I could report that sitting in the fridge overnight did it no harm at all. It's yummy! :-D

A
Sugarluva you have to make your own cake! Can you imagine it? One of us making our own wedding cake, all the times we've stressed and worried over other peoples cakes, all the times we've helped each other and admired each other's creations. It'll be brilliant! :-) I meant to ask yesterday, did you have any idea your fiancé (:-D) was going to propose or was it a complete surprise?

Here are some of the kids cakes. I'm so proud of them I could burst! :-)
No I had absolutely no idea maisie. He's usually rubbish at keeping secrets, we never even usually make it to Christmas day before we end up telling each other what we've bought. So for him to keep something like this a secret is a big deal! I always thought that if he ever planned it I'd suspect it at least but I didn't have a clue! Been looking online at wedding venues today... OMG so many options and some are so expensive!

Those cakes are lovely too maisie, I can see why you are so proud of them all!

Mel I am going to agree as well and say I actually prefer to the sequins on the left. I see what you mean about the colour though, shame they're not more blingy. Could you maybe jazz them up a bit with a bit of dust? (I realised half way through that sentence that I actually have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to dusts /colours so maybe just ignore me)

AOh and I've forgotten who gave the tip about baking cake boards to dry them out? Was it Jean? That's such a good tip I'm going to try it next time. I always forget to cover my boards in advance and then I'm too impatient to wait for them to dry and I end up with dints and finger nail marks in them.

Oh ya I've been meaning to tell everyone. Some of you probably already know and do this, but I baked my SP covered drum in the oven at 70C for 1 hr (although I'm sure 30mins would do) so that it would set. I read it somewhere. When it comes out of the oven I got bubbles but I just smoothed them down with a smoother until they went down- takes few minute or two to for the bubbles to subside. Then don't touch it anymore until it's cold and set. Works like a dream- it set rock hard after 2 or 3 hours! I did this for both boards last week, I'd forgotten to do the first one, and the second one was a last min order.

I did the same with my handbag cake handles- this was a last minute order and because I was winging it, I didn't make the handle until the day I was going to need it. I baked the handles for 30mins on 70C, and they were good to go when they'd cooled down. Imagine the possibilities for last minute orders!! Maybe could do the same with flowers if you didn't want to wait overnight for things like buds to set. Have to factor in the cost of the gas/electricity though!

My other tip is with regards SMBC. Again, read this somewhere online. Normally when I make SMBC, I heat then whip the egg and sugar mixture until it becomes the meringue. What I do now is put it in the fridge to cool down, beat the butter until it's super soft and creamy, then add the cooled sugar egg mixture. It cuts down on the time it takes to make it because there's no more need to whip the meringue- which takes ages.

If you want stiffer SMBC, add an extra egg or two. It does become sweeter, but makes for a more stable SMBC.

Thanks for that tip Jean, I often forget to cover my board in advance so that's really helpful.

Yes Mr B's Christmas CD will be on tonight while putting up the trees.

While her medication is in her system it is helping a bit but the pain breaks through frequently and she still is having trouble with the immense soreness under and down her arm. The main thing is to keep her spirits up as this demon has been with her for so long and showing no signs of going away. She did phone me today in  a state of great excitement as she had received a Christmas card wishing her well from a certain, very caring Welsh person in our lovely cake community . She was so touched that so many of you are thinking about her and asking after her health. She said to pass on her thanks to you all for being so kind and generous of spirit.

Charlie cat is still hanging on in there so we are valuing everyday we get. Glad yours is o.k. after the session this morning.

I haven't tried the PME Red but that was going to be my suggestion.

I did have a comfort break, a chat and a cup of coffee in the CDC shop on the way home. Couldn't find too much to buy so soon after CI but did by some very large rose cutters and peony cutters by Clare Bowman, which I hadn't seen before...well it would have been unsociable not to buy anything wouldn't it?  Also saw Dawn Butler  struggling in with a pile of boxes. Did you know they are opening a shop in Preston (not sure if that helps anyone on here)?

Oh my goodness I could actually scream but I won't because it's 1am and everyone else in the house is asleep. I live in preston and this is such exciting news well it is for me. I wonder when they're opening as I've not heard any rumours that there's going to be a new cake shop.

Nanny that trainer is so realisitic I can't wait to see the Starbucks cup.

Maisie how cute are them cakes, you should be so pleased what a fab teacher you are. Also don't ever apologise for gushing, gush away you have every right to feel proud. Also it was me asking about the ribbon thanks for the link it worked fine.

Hiya

So sorry I haven't been keeping up with any messages.

Just had to come and vent, though...

A former customer is trying to guilt trip me.... she messaged me last night to ask if I can do a cake for 27th Dec... it's her bday. If so she'll get her hubby to call me as she wants it to be a surprise!

I replied that I'm afraid I can't.

This morning she messaged back "Oh no, can't believe it. That is the third time you can't do me. Have tried others and they don't compare"

So I said to her "I know - I'm so sorry but previously I've already been booked up as it was late notice and this time it's Christmas!! It would mean baking it on Christmas day."

Anyway, on a happier note -

I have a dress for my son's Bar Mitzvah party!!!!  It's completely not what I thought I wanted, but I love it!!!!  Couldn't decide between two sizes, so I bought both and will send one back! LOL!  One I have to shoe-horn myself into - but it's OK.  Actually helps to hold it all in, if you know what I mean??:wink::wink:  The larger size is huge across the back, so it all depends what the dressmaker says she can do with regards to alterations!

I've had to go to Plan B with the Bar Mitzvah cake, because Plan A was looking like a dog's dinner!  But I hope to motor on with it (pleeeeeease send me cake ninja vibes, as I REALLY need to finish it by the weekend!) Then it's 140 personalised cookies to make this weekend (using instead of name place cards).

Today I've got an appt at Boots at the No. 7 counter....  I told her I intend buying new make-up but could they show me how to do 'evening eyes' (I rarely wear make-up).  So they've given me an appt for today.

Hubby is only in work on Monday next week then we get to tidy the whole house from top to bottom (not that people will see the upstairs when they come for lunch, but it makes me feel good!) in readiness for next weekend!!!!!!!!!

OMG! 9 days to go.

Catch you later, guys!

Suzanne x x x

AMorning all. :-)

Thankyou sugarluva and loubee. :-)

Aw bless him sugarluva! You must've been stunned. It must be quite scary for men to propose actually, especially in public. Didn't he do well. Wedding venues are ridiculous prices. We went somewhere in the middle, not a posh hotel and not one of the working mens clubs. We went to church then to what used to be a working mans club but had been done up and were trying to break into the wedding business. It's better established now and their prices have gone up enormously, almost as much as a posh hotel. We were lucky I think.

Glad you had your OP chezzabelle. Sorry you're suffering now but you will only get better. It would've been awful if they'd cancelled after you'd got there and as for the pain, maybe it's a blessing in disguise you had an attack the night before. However bad it is now you've got that fresh in your memory to remind you why you've done it and it'll be worth it in the long run. Hope you've got somebody looking after you and spoiling you, get well soon. x

Morning nanny, how was Sarah on the radio? Bet you're ever so proud! :-)

So glad you've got a dress Suzanne! I knew you would as soon as you said you had a "just in case I don't find anything better" dress. (Apprentice) ninja vibes coming your way but I'm sure you don't need them. Enjoy your makeover. :-)

Sugarluva and Loubee, yes isn't it FANTASTIC??? No more finger-dents (as I like to call them) or fingernail marks on our lovely boards. They will always be beautiful and perfect from now on, and we don't have any excuses now we know we can just chuck them in the oven!

Nanny, Caerphilly Castle is beautiful and huge. Congrats on Sarah's radio debut!

Enjoy the makeup session today Suzanne - pity you don't live nearer to Kelsey.

Congrats to Sarah, Barbara. Good excuse for a new dress.

Well my gelatin drops are looking way better than the cake lace sequins so far, going to leave them overnight, but thinking that's the way to go, the cake lace is just totally the wrong colour, very disappointing :/

Thanks - it only took about a week :D We are stupidly proud of ourselves!

We actually didn't do it in the hotel, we were married in the Valley of Fire. It's amazing, red rocks everywhere - it's where they filmed the Mars scenes in the original Total Recall (which hubby didn't tell me till afterwards, I'm not that sad :D)

I like the sequins on the right best btw, but I do think the mat ones are pretty. You could use them in layers up the side of a cake, I think that would look pretty effective.

They had a lot of fun making them mel, they were excited all morning waiting for me but settled down and worked really well when I got there. No firm date to go back but I really hope I will. Rebake went well and I had enough leftover for a 6 inch which has been in the fridge overnight and is in the oven now.

Wow you wedding location is phenomenal! Your cake is fabulous and I love your mum's card LOL

Well I nearly knocked the barstool down trying to get to the door that just rang a minute ago. Not my airbrush, but some cakey stuff I ordered from ryepack. Wish the blasted thing would arrive, I'd like some time to watch the DVD and maybe try it before the school run!
