I'm doing a 2-14" two layer cake for a baby shower. I have my pricing down for the sheet cakes but I've never had an order for a round cake. I've checked websites and most average $40-$60 each. I just thought that seemed high.

These will be a two layer buttercream frosted cake. One yellow and one chocolate. It's for a boy's shower and the theme is trucks. One will have a prick method cement mixer and one will have a dump truck on it. They will have a lot of detail. Probably just a shell border. It's for a friend of mine. I'm making her 85 cement mixer cookies decorated and individually wrapped at no charge but told her she'd have to pay for the cakes. Maybe I should have charged per cookie and donated the cakes!!

I was thinking $50-$60 for both cakes. I know that's a steal but when it's a friend you tend to low ball yourself.

What would you girls charge. Also do you think 2 14" rounds will be enough for 75 people??

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

So they are separate cakes or are they stacked or tiered? For a simple cake with classic flavors I charge $1.25 per serving. If it is a stacked or tiered cake I charge $2.25 per serving. My prices go up depending on decoratings and if fondant is used. The serving size for 1 2-layer 14" cake is 63 servings.

I wouldn't discount the cakes because you are already providing "free" cookies. I charge $3 per cookie.

They are two separate 2 layer cakes.

One yellow and one chocolate. They will both be buttercream frosting with the truck design on top. I'm using truck design from the bedding in her registry.

I'm guessing that 1.25 a slice is what I should charge. I may do a simple strawberrry between the yellow layer and a chocolate kahlua filling between the chocolate layers. They are simple fillings.

I was going to tell her $30 a cake but with your pricing it would be $78 a cake. Thanks Jacqui for your help! I would have been way to low if I hadn't asked!!
