Great minds think alike....me too, I did make a purse cake but it was the most simplest one...I just cut the bottom off of a round cake LOL, but I want to go a step further and make a pillow cake that definately needs a bit more carving...cant wait to try it
Hi! I totally know how you feel! It has been really slow for me since christmas. As for sculpting I have only done 3 so far (submarine, dog, and space shuttle in gallery) I dont know if the dog counts, more just cut up cake than sculpting...) Anyway, best advice is to freeze the cake before carving it. I would just fill the cake with icing (not fillings). Just go to town and have fun! Purse cake sounds like a lot of fun!
Yay Tiff! I just did my first sculpted (carved) cake- I did a football for the Superbowl- it was so fun! I really want to try a pillow cake next, there's a great tutorial for one on this site. Since you're doing it for fun and just to learn, there's no pressure- just do your best and enjoy it! I guarantee you'll learn a lot from your first that will help you on your next one. Good luck!
