First did you want the whole animal, or only the head? If it's only the head try and google a good pic of it showing different angles. I'd prob. start off with a wondermold on a round and start carving. Someone suggested making some spackle from cut off cake to build up the features.

You could buy Silicone Plastique, an inexpensive ceramic cougar and make a mold. Then mold the Cougar of gumpaste. I found a seller on eBAY who sold wonderful silicone molds and had her make one for me, if you lived closer I'd let you borrow it.

Then you could cover the cake in a yellowish brown cougar color fondant or buttercream and paint the spots on with petal dusts thinned with alcohol. Something like this.

I go to the dollar store and get the little bags of plastic animals and use the reusable molding material from beryls.com and make all my animal molds.

If you are just going to do the head, I highly recommend you get your hands on 'Party Animal Cakes' by Lindy Smith and use her instructions for the tigers head and then just change the colours to suit. It is a stunning cake which I hope to do for my own birthday this year (depending on how snowed under I am with other people's orders!).

Have you seen the puppy instructions? I would think you could adapt them. Last post and one on the next page...HTH!

I think to do a cougar I would use the 3D Lamb pan like I did for the tiger cubs. There is a cheetah cake on here that has great shape and I think they also used this pan, I would do the cougar and have it on a sheet cake cut to look like a rock ledge. The other choice would be to do it like your Wilderness Santa cake only place mountain cliffs and bush on the tiers with gum paste cougars coming down off them. If this couple are fun you could add a bride and groom to this with the bride hiding behind the groom and he portraying the big protector or vice versa depending on the couple.

Hope one of these ideas help!
