Does anyone here own a sugarveil pen? I have been thinking about getting one, but am not sure if they are worth the money.

There is a member karensue who uses one. She has a posting of a cake asking what to charge for it. The writing on it is beautiful, I am thinking of getting one because of it.

This is the link I found:

I just saw this in my Kitchen Kraft catalog last night. I thought it was really expensive too....but I did think that it was really cool to be able to design like that.

Maybe when I get better at decorating, I'll invest in one.

Has anyone looked on Ebay for them?

You can go to the website - www.sugarveil.com and see the technique and also order from them. I ordered one last year - I have to admit that I haven't used it that much. I really do like the look that you can get with the frosting - but you don't really have to have the pen to use the frosting. You can use a regular piping bag and tip. You might try ordering a package of the sugarveil frosting mix and try it out before considering purchasing the pen.

I think you can use the pen with thinned royal or buttercream as well. Oh - does anyone know?

I've used royal icing in the pen, but not buttercream. I think that buttercream would work also. I used the royal icing to decorate cookies. The tips that come with the pen are small, useful only for drawing lines and writing. As I said, I haven't used the pen enough
to feel really confindent with it.
