So Many Problems With This Project... (Disappointment)
Decorating By stephanie214 Updated 7 Feb 2007 , 3:16am by stephanie214
Well, here is the final results for my great-neice's fifteenth birthday this past weekend, everything was my first time making.
I had some major problems with the handbag
It was suppose to stand up with tiny pearls over the flap (which I didn't make)
. The cake would not sit up straight even through I leveled it and the fondant was ripping in the back
. I got so frustrated, that I gave up and went with the bag laying flat covered in fondant with a flower to try to bring it out some
.
The gift package color was a light ivory but my camera made it look yellow and I forgot to put a border around it after setting up the cakes
And would you believe that the same bow loop on top kept breaking apart from the bow ![]()
And last but not least, one of the shoes broke and I had to use candy melts to hold it together
...thank goodness it happened before they were airbrushed ![]()
The handbag, shoes, bow and her name (which is RI) are airbrushed with Bronze Luster Dust.
But, I can say, the birthday girl and everyone else loved them...glad they didn't know anything about decorating ![]()

Thanks Nati for your help ![]()

Talk about your own worst critic!
I love you cakes and the shoe....Great job! And great job on overcoming the disappointment and making it look fabulous.
Julia
You are being WAY too hard on yourself!! Your cakes and shoes look fabulous! I made the purse, shoe and shoebox a couple of months ago and I made 6 shoes before I got one to stay together. Then my purse was a lot darker than I wanted.
Don't feel bad about your cake, it really turned out beautiful!!

Beautiful work! It is great to see how a little creativity can overcome problems. No one would have any idea that that was not your original plan.
Thanks everyone, you are so kind, but believe me, I actually cried some tears over the pocketbook
.
This is a stunning cake and presentation! I know how it feels when things go wrong and the finished product isn't what was envisioned. Hopefully, when some time has passed, you'll see this cake for the amazing work of art it is. 90% of cake decorating is not knowing how, but knowing how to fix it.
Great save!
Stephanie! They came out perfect!
I understand how you feel--we always get the plan in our heads and when they cakes don't cooperate, we just frustrated! I've felt like that lately with the last few I have done. I want one to just go as planned, ya know! ![]()

Your ckaes turned out great despite the mishaps and you should be proud!
I think that it all turned out great! I love the color of the shoes and the texture in the gift wrap.
Aww, you stressed yourself out for nothing, the presentation is wonderful and your family loved it!
you overcame those little setbacks that happen all the time in this sugar world..lol
You see I read before I look at picture so i was expecting some horrible broken everywhere thing!!! ![]()
BUT your cake is amazing!!!!!!! no wonder everyone loved it pat your self on the back this cake is excellent!!!
Thanks, but I'm more disappointed about the handbag. It's too old-looking and plain for her age. I wanted a more younger-looking, dressy bag to compliment the shoes ![]()
I know it's stupid to cry over a cake but I couldn't help it
. I had this vision of what I wanted and couldn't achieve.
