Hello all!
I just got a call from a woman who needs enough cake to feed about 600 people. Its not a wedding, just a family event for a company.
What would be the best way to do this??? icon_eek.gif She needs them for an event in March, so I need to start baking and freezing ASAP.
Thank you all!

i think that sheet cakes would work out better. they are easier to cut...but do you have space?

yeah sheet cakes or even broach the subject of cupcakes. the perk of those is no cutting which makes things a lot cleaner inthe end. good luck. happy decorating

12 half-sheet cakes would work perfectly (about 54 servings each). At least 5 people are going to want second helpings, after all, you're a CCer, and all our cakes taste great! Offer more yellow than chocolate sheets. March is lion to lamb time, so if they do not want their company info on the cake, you could try that theme, flying kites, tulips and daffodils, stuff like that.

Okay, so 12 1/2 sheets, I have room for that in my deep freezer. Thank you all for the posts.
Wish me luck!

The only reason I think to go cupcakes is that you can display them in more orginal ways although they would be harder to store after decorating.

i got 600 mini cupcakes and brownies done for an event, no problem.

I got 5 mini cupcake sheet pans and they each do I think 2 dozen.

I did 200 yellow
200 chocolate
and 200 brownies.

Then I packed them into little cups the smallest cups that I could find that came with lids.

and that was it..it took me about 3 days! one day to bake and pack after I spent the day with my printer and some mini labels to put my name and phone number on all the cups!!

actually it didn't. I placed them into the cups and before I closed the little lids I did a big swirl of icing on them.

I got 600 people to walk around with my name and number on a cup and if they liked my product the cup was small enough to save.

Remember those are the 1 ounce cupcakes~!

I would say sheet cakes. I made a cake to feed a 1000 people for a Walmart Opening several years ago. I made marbel cake with a filling in between each cake. Only thing make sure you have a large door to get the cake out and into the place you are serving. I had to do mine in the garage and luckily Walmart had double doors. When you ice the whole cake you can't see the seams.

I did a 4.5 x 2.5 foot cake last year for Canada day and I used 9x13's. I found them way easier to handle, didn't have to level them. It worked out great, it's in my photo's if you'd like to look.......
