Hello...I have to come up with a 3D fridge cake for a man whose 75th bday who used to work on fridges. So, they want one with food or shoes in it. YUP...I said shoes. I guess he re-did one in the garage.HEHE>
Does anyone know how I would do a 3D fridge? OR has anyone done one? I couldn't seem to find anything close when I searched.
Thank you so much!!!! Really appreciate all your help!!
Well, do you have a pic of which model he wants?
Basically a loaf pan should have the right shape, but you'd have to stand it up. Dowel thru the cake board to be sure it doesn't tip over. In theory you could sort of not be able to close the door with all those shoes in it, just elan the door to, don't shut completely and let a couple os shoes peek out the side (or food)
Thank you Ursula.
Has no one done one before?? I so need pictures PLEASE!!! Please!
Your best best is i think to bake the loaf pan, out of fondant shape a squarish sausage to go on the long front side of the cake and cover with bc or fondant. this is to create the illusion of the cake being hollow. Obviously you cant just serve a hollowed out cake so just make the things inside of the fridge (shoes, beer, butter etc out fo gumpaste or fondant and stick them onto the front of the cake,
Make the door a couple of days in advance out of gumpaste or rice crispie treats. Cover with same material as you did for the fridge and stick to front of cake at a half open angle. You could put strips of fondant to indicate shelving, kegs of beer inside the bottom 2 rows of fridge would save some modelling, as they are larger than just bottles. Put the shoes on the top one or 2 racks. Make all the stuff inside the fridge sort of half 3D, ie. only one end of the kegs and back halves of the shoes (or front)
Sorry no pics, if you do a fridge with a freezer part you could save some more small stuff modelling as well, as that door could remain closed
Thank you again Ursula for taking your time to help me. I really appreciate it. I am very nervous about doing this cake...YIkes.
But I am so thankful for your ideas....Thanks again, nicole
