this is what I did for my daughters birthday two years ago when she was really into monkeys and you couldn't find ANYTHING monkey.
This was before I knew a thing about decorating and everyone loved it, especially my daughter!
Monkey face cake: I took an 8 inch round pan, made a double layer cake but reserved some of the batter and put it into 2 mini round cake pans (single serving size) to later be used as ears. It made my 8inch layers a little thinner, but no one noticed or cared.
when the cake was done i used the 8inch circles for the face and then cut the ears into moon shapes so that they would fit snugly against the head. I frosted the cake brown but inside the years and the lower part of the face i did in light brown. I used black icing and chocolate chips for the nose and light brown icing and up-side-down cho chips for the eyes.

If you email me i will email you a picture or two of how it looked. I hope I helped!

I have a little monkey boy that I did for a set of 2 yr old twin boys some time ago that is in my gallery. However, there is a girl version of the same cake that came out much cuter on my website if you are interested. It's just simple oval cakes.
