I wanted to use some candy melts to coat my cake balls, and decided to add a little half&half to make it a bit creamier (didn't have heavy cream). Well it did not melt, just ended up in a blob, so added some shortening to maybe get it back to creamy.....now it is just a soft greasy blob. Guess I really messed this up, so now what can I do with this stuff? icon_redface.gif

Not much you can do now. I use either shortening, oil or parafin to thin the candy coating. If you are using the wilton melts I do not think you are supposed to add anything. I usually use candy bark or chocolate chips in a pinch. From my understanding, adding anything water based will make it goopy. Hope tht helps.

I knew I should not have added anything, but was hoping to make it a little more ganachish......now the shortening is separating from the softened candy - oh man, what a mess! Hoping it being in the fridge will stiffen it up enough to roll truffle balls. Wonder if if I could get it to stiffen enough to put around cake ball then dip in good melted candy...... icon_confused.gif

If I add corn syrup to this, think it will turn into "chocolate" clay? icon_confused.gif

I saw on TV somewhere that if you add just a little it blobs on you - but if you add ALOT it doesn't. Jaques Torres, I think...
You have little to lose at this point: why don't you try warming some half and half and the candy blob and see what happens?

Alton Brown taught that too.
