I just recieved my entire set of Kroma Kolors airbrush colors today in the mail. My question is...do you have to dilute the colors, and if so, what do you dilute them with? I've read about people diluting them with water, and vodka. Can you use clear rum? I don't have any vodka but I do have a little clear rum. Any help and instructions would be greatly appreciated. Another thing I read was that the colors needed to be diluted to the viscosity of 2% milk.
o heck no don't dilute the colors at all!!! They are meant to be applied as a spray so they will be , in a way, diluted by air before the color reaches your cake.
Airbrush colors already come premixed and ready to apply. Just pour some into your color cup of your gun and go for it hun.
You are thinking maybe of the gel or paste colors that have to be diluted before you paint with them. Don't use those in your gun or you will clog the needle. Airbrush colors are filtered to prevent that from happening.
Get a paper plate or small bowl and pour just a itty bitty bit of the color onto the plate. You'll see that the colors are the same consistency as the ink you used in art class in high school. And yes they do look dark in the bottle and unsprayed but once sprayed they are quite vibrant and kewl.
Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. Can you spray luster dust through the airbrush? What would I mix the dust with? I really appreciate your help. ![]()
You can, and yes you do dilute that with a white alcohol, but be sure to clean it out and shake it every once in a while to make sure that the particles stay suspended. Personally I wouldn't use rum because it has a distinct flavor and it has loads of sugar in it (it is made from sugar cane).
Just make sure to run the alcohol (everclear, vodka, gin, I buy "shooters" just for that purpose).
and then run hot water through the gun to make sure that you got all the residue from the dust out of it.
