Frosting Coloring Help

I need some advice. When I make purple or blue frosting after it sets for awhile the color starts to fade. What can I do to stop that? Please help icon_cry.gif Thanks in advance. icon_biggrin.gif

Is this with BC or royal? All royal icing tends to fade, but I've heard that the violet colors fade with BC as well, though I haven't experienced this. I think you just need to keep it out of the light, and compensate when you're mixing your colors in the first place.

The icing is buttercream.

That is odd...usually BC colors will get darker while it sits. The only thing I've noticed is that if I don't have my container closed really well the icing will start to dry out and get lighter. Is that a possibility?
Other than that, I have no idea what might be the problem. Janice
