I am doing a cake that I found in the 2007 wilton book. it has chocolate letters and numbers used on the cake. well, i tried it today and they look horrible!! the chocolate had run up the sides of the cookie cutters (that's what I was using to make the #'s) and then when I went to make the letters the center of the "a" is raised so the chocolate won't hold its shape.

any help would be more than appreciated!! I might have to start looking into different type of lettering....

hey, why dont you try this method.

type the letters you want in microsoft word in any style, then edit it into Bold format lets say size 36 ,it all depends on what size you want as long as it's readable. Then print it and have it paste in a cardboard, after that cut it out and trace it in gumpaste w/ an exacto knife then paint it w/ what you prefer (like luster dust or gel paint), and then Tadannn!!! You'll gonna have a costumized lettering. Hope this helpsicon_surprised.gif)

You could also do the template that Mala suggested, then make chocolate transfers.

Last week I bought a set of Wilton's small letter and number cutouts. I will make chocolate putty to use with the cutouts to put a child's name on a cake or Happy Birthday, etc. since I'm not so good at at writing on the cake.

I got cutters for this at the ICES convention this summer from PME, but you could also do the letters in Word like Mala suggested, then trace them with RI. on wax paper/parchment over the letters.
