Please help! I am on this site several times a day, but this is my first post. I am fairly new to cake decorating and have an order for a zebra print cake. What is the best way to do it? I was thinking about painting the stripes on, but am unsure about how it will look. Thank you in advance. I look forward to many more posts!
how about a fbct using this pattern...take a look

Glad you decided to join us! I think painting them on fondant would look great. You could also use a zebra stripe stencil (available at craft stores) and an airbrush (or canned color mist/spray).
I read an article recently about someone making a cake like this...might give you some pointers.

If you are using fondant to cover the cake, you can make 2 batches...one white and one black....roll out the white as you would normally, exept before you cover the cake with it, add some black strips of fondant and gently flatten them into the white with your rolling pin. You don't want to mix the colors....just get them to adhere to one another. Now you can cover the cake with your zebra fondant.
Alternately...you can paint the black stripes on. (This is probably what I would do) Use Full strength black gel food coloring and a touch of vodka to just make it a smooth paste and looking at a picture of zebra stripes, paint it on. I did this with a leopard print on one of my cakes in my gallery and it came out great! And if you dust it afterwards with some luster dust (just a little on the black, but more on the white) it will POP!
You could also try a different color than black for a cool effect....I don't know the style of your client...but a deep burgundy and off-white would look fantastic in a zebra print.
Have fun....try the different ways before you attempt it on the cake and you'll see what works best.
